Zombies overcome!
I have been obese probably my whole life. I am working hard to no longer be that way. I am three quarters of the way to my goal and still going strong. I have learned a lot from this site and appreciate all the free information! My journey started with small steps: setting a calorie target and sticking to it, drinking 8 cups of water, going to the gym 3 times a week to strength train. My cardio was pathetic when I first started, I would count the half mile walk across campus when I parked in the far garage as my cardio for the day (admittedly I had to do it twice!). I didn't like cardio at first. Then I learned that on the treadmill I can get a good workout not just by going fast (wasn't going to happen) but also by increasing the incline on the machine! Finding small things to gradually change my lifestyle has lead to overall very BIG changes! I used to hit up subway multiple times a week and that helped keep me in my calorie limit, but now I look at sodium levels too and subway just doesn't cut it there so I have been cooking meals for the week in big batches on Sundays. It is a lot of work to plan that out. I eat around 4 meals a day (aside from breakfast) and I don't want to eat the same thing twice in one day. That leads to a lot of cooking, but it is worth it! I make mistakes, I end up with dishes that are not as healthy as I had intended sometimes, but they are almost always delicious. Recently I have discovered the joy of spaghetti squash. It is soooo tastey and easy to cook and can be incorporated into so many dishes. I made a lasagna dish with spaghetti squash instead of noodles. It is yummy all on its own. I am going to try baking it with pears and cinnamon cause it has a slightly sweet taste that I want to try to bring out. If out haven't tried it I highly recommend it. I am sad I went 30 years without having tried it, but I am making up for lost time now :)
