In for Life

Hello, my name is Gena. I live in Idaho, have been married for 33 years and have an 19 year old son. I'm glad I found Spark for all the help it has given me. I plan on working toward my goal in 2009, and then maintaining it. With the tools and support I have it will get done.

I have been heavy since I was around 5 years old. I'm 5'1" and my heaviest weight has been 199 lbs. I knew if I "crossed over" that weight I would not be able to come back. In 1980 I was way up there ...

In 1980 I was way up there and was lucky to be able to go to WW camp in NC for 7 weeks and lost some weight. I got down to around 161, and made up my mind that since I had invested so much money and time I would stay at 161. I managed that for several years, dieted in between, bouncing around but never getting to any set goal. Then gradually my weight got back up in the 180s. More dieting and then got to around 175 and sort of hovered there.

Last January (2007) I cut back on food, and faithfully went to the gym about 3 days a week. Got my weight down to around 160. In July, my husband had a heart stoppage and due to that situation I wasn't watching my food and got up to 168 real fast.

Joined Spark at the end of September 2007, and I'm here to stay, to faithfully track my food, try to exercise more, get support from all the great folks here and to offer support and encouragement to others struggling like I am. My page title "In For Life" means just that. This isn't just some diet I'm trying. I'm seriously putting my weight as a priority and going to get to my goal. With my weight where it is right now -- it is a weight I haven't been at in over 40 years. It makes me so happy that I am serious and determined. It is almost inconceivable that I will and can weigh 128, but nothing is going to stop me.

Then comes maintenance.......the most scary part for me. It seems like one extra something puts a pound back on my short little body, so I do have to watch every morsel I put into my mouth. My fear -- can I do it, will I do it. Once I get the the magical maintenance part I still plan on using Spark every single day, tracking food because I know that I need to do that.

I wish every person on this site success. I thank Spark Man so much for this awesome tool and for free so everyone can use it. I adore the wonderful Spark friends I have made here and they are all very dear to me.

Being serious and using Spark, I don't see how we cannot succeed in having a healthy life style and especially no reason that we can't maintain what we have all accomplished here. As for me, I'm "In for Life" and I wish everyone the best of success in obtaining a healthy lifestyle here at Spark.
