In 2005 after I had been away from the ice for awhile, I discovered I coudn't play ice-hockey for more than 20 - 25 minutes without being so winded I had to leave the ice. After two successive weeks of this, I decided something had to be done about my lack of fitness. I started strength training and doing some aerobics at home. After 6 months I joined a gym and began focussing more on gaining some muscle. At 39 years of age and with being an ectomorph, gains did not come easy, however I went from 210lbs @ 24%bf down to 194lbs @ 16%bf (according to Tanita bodycomp scale) over a period of 4 years. I have never been an endurance athlete but efforts at the gym translated to success on the ice. I often skated for the full hour with only 1 or 2 rests. During this period I read many, many bodybuilding and fitness magazines as well as books and Internet articles on the bodybuilding and fitness lifestyle.
