Once upon a time, I stepped on the scale at the doctor's office, and the nurse wrote down 309 pounds. I was depressed, anxious, couldn't focus, had knees that aches, a back that ached, and it was hard to move let alone workout. I almost couldn't get up off the couch, in fact, once I did I had to resort to only sitting on bar stools and my exercise ball in order to avoid getting stuck. I was depressed, anxious, couldn't focus, had knees that aches, a back that ached, and it was hard to move let alone workout. I almost couldn't get up off the couch, in fact, once I did I had to resort to only sitting on bar stools and my exercise ball in order to avoid getting stuck. I did stuff on the Wii-- since it only demanded a few minutes at a time. Eventually I moved to the gym, did occasional videos. Went down a bit, stalled, up a hair, then down. Two steps forward, one step back.

It's a method that makes for a slow journey, 309 was 5 years ago I believe. I had a long stretch at 295 and another at 285 and another at 265. But I made more progress over last winter -- the past year really, and my most recent scale reading was 199.2.

Grant it, I was sick today, and didn't eat much. I wanted to run three miles at the Y this morning, but that wasn't happening. This afternoon I felt somewhat better and went for a 4 mile walk instead.

I'm not so optimistic as to say I'll never see 200 again. Weight flucuates, so it's likely the scale could tease me with 202 or 203 in the near future. But as long as I don't gain more than a few pounds, my mind is staying in Onederland.

30-40 pounds left. Home stretch has arrived
