Thanks for visiting my page, I'm Mandy; mother of three and wife of ten years. My story is a classic one. I've been overweight ever since I can remember, no doubt that an ongoing love affair with sweets and fried goodies contributed to this factor. I was brought up in a family that ate warm home made bread caked in butter and jam, greasy fried chicken, and perogies smothered in a butter and onion sauce. I started my first diet when I was about eleven years old. I lost about fifteen pounds in one month. I couldn't stick with the program because although I was trying my hardest to change my eating habits, I lived with a family that didn't change their eating habits. I gave up on trying to lose weight and I accepted the fact that I was always going to be the "big" girl.
Life went on and the weight packed on also. I became pregnant with our first child and I used my pregnancy as an excuse to eat any and everything that I wanted to. I managed to gain almost 100lbs during my pregnancy. My son was born in 2001 and within a few months I was pregnant again. My daughter was born fourteen months later, and I weighed 247lbs. I never put much thought into losing weight until my friend mentioned that she was going to weight watchers and she had managed to lose about thirty pounds. She told me about the program and I decided to give it a try.

I lost 36lbs in six months. I was feeling good but I was struggling. I still felt as if I was dieting. I eventually quit going to the meetings and regressed into my old eating habits. I gained 25lbs back in no time. Our third child was born in August of 2004. I somehow managed not to gain any additional weight with this pregnancy. I was a stay at home mom for a while and when the baby was one I decided to go back to work.

I work at a hospital and I deal with a variety of patients on a daily basis. One fine day an elderly gentleman came in and as we carried on a polite conversation he told me that his granddaughter was expecting a baby in March. Then he said "I see you are too."......My world shrank, I didn't know what to say, I was embarresed but I also didn't want to embarress him. I said something along the lines of "excuse me" trying to make him realize that in fact I was not expecting. It didn't work and when I told him that I was not pregnant he even took it a step further, his eyes got huge and he looked at my fat stomach and said "You're not?". This was the moment that I realized something had to change.

I started to eat healthier and become more active in my every day life. Instead of dieting I decided that I needed to change my lifestyle. The weight started to come off and when I was at a lower weight I began to incorporate exercise into my program. I've maintained my weight loss for about two years now and I have decided to push forward and lose the remaining weight and reach my goal of 138lbs. I found this website and I know with the support and tools that I have found here that I am going to reach my goal soon.

08/10-to be able to run a mile without stopping or dying!

My Program:
Keeping myself accountable for every item that is put into my mouth.
Exercise, exercise, exercise.
Balance work, school, family, and still manage to eat healthy.
Fresh fruit and veggies.
Whole grains.
