I have started down this path so many times before only to give up and gain even more weight. Trying to lose weight is like trying to quit smoking. Heaven knows that took me about a bazillion times before I finally succeeded. I just never had the right motivation until the doctor told me that my smoking caused the cancer he just diagnosed. I handed him my cigarettes and lighter and never looked back. That was 1988 and I have been smoke free (and cancer free) ever since. ...
Once again I have the right motivation... In March 2007 I lost my Mom to Pancreatic Cancer. It totally broke my heart and I went on the "I don't give a darn" diet. This continued until the day I realized that no matter how much fast food, pizza, and sweets I gorged myself on it would never bring her back. Last summer I decided to eat healthy and lost a few pounds. I thought I looked great until I saw the photo from my Dad's wedding last August - I cried for an entire weekend. I was HUGE, absolutely HUGE! On October 23, 2008 I went to my doctor, a bariatric specialist who does not promote surgery or any type of wierd injections. He is all about diet and excercise. He uses medication if he thinks you need it. The thought of being weighed terrified me. To my delight I weighed ONLY 341.5 lbs. Why was I happy? I know I had been much heavier earlier that year because my seatbelt was so tight I could scarcely buckle it. But by October it was much easier to buckle but still snug with no "give". On October 24, 2008 I began this latest journey and I have been able to stay on course. I had a goal to be below 300 lbs by January 1 and I met that goal in med-December. By the time I joined this site I had already lost 60 lbs. My ultimate goal is to be below 200 lbs by my 50th birthday at the end of September. I will make it!
