Taking a Stand

I'm taking a stand. All the hollow intentions of "dieting" are done, and I'm willing to make some changes for life.

I'm a survivor of constant dieting since high school (somehow already 50+ years ago!), long distance running, multiple falls from horseback, and weight gain from my own poor habits and "knowing it all." But, despite arthritis, I'm still mobile and active - what a gift!

Now I'm ready to shut up and learn, ready to do the work that getting healthier will take. I'm done with the "tomorrow" goals, and committed to the "right now." I'm excited about the change, and very grateful for this gift called Spark People. Thanks for being there, everyone - I'm learning every day from each of you.

I had no idea how much the good information, support and encouragement would mean to me - you folks are amazing. Let's DO THIS!

Fitness Minutes: 7,260

My Goals:
For right now:
15 minutes of intentional exercise every day
Planning meals before I eat
Seeking daily inspiration
Giving myself some credit

For the longer term:
Feeling comfortable in my own skin
Doing 10 real push-ups,
Taking a mountain hike,
Buying my first bathing suit in 20 years,
Publishing books,

My Program:
Praying, 1200-1550 calories a day, daily exercise (Qigong, yoga, walking, strength training), tracking nutrients, learning more, asking for help when I need it (whooboy...) and offering support to others. I want to feel the satisfaction of following through.

Personal Information:
Gail from Maryland, by way of NJ, Iowa, Spain, Massachusetts, and Maine. I'm a Christian mother of one daughter, retired high school biology teacher, hip deep in some writing projects.

Other Information:
Time just seems to slip away, and the older we get the faster it seems to go...and I've still got growing to do. I want to be more mindfully grateful. I want to appreciate and make good use of each moment I'm given, give my full attention to whoever is in front of me, and just "be here now."

Gail,
Thanks, it has been frustrating not being able to run. But at least I am still moving! I keep trying a few steps of running, but I know my leg is just not ready yet, maybe next week, fingers crossed!

Yeah, control seems to be the biggest problem around here. I believe I am going to challenge my boys to have control over their mouths today-just being kind to one another.
I joined the Bike to the Moon challenge on the first of June. You can add your miles anyway that you want, bike, swim, walk, run, anything you want. It is pretty cool. Then the whole team miles are added together for the month to see how close we can get. The team as a whole is getting close. It's fun. It is the only challenge I have really stuck with since I started Spark.
Hope your day goes well. I better go for now. Take care.
