My name is Cassie Branscom. I'm 24 years old. I work for the State of Missouri as a Children's Social Worker.

For as long as I can remember, I've also been referred to as pleasantly plump. However, I can remember in my early teen years that I had a healthy relationship with food. I ate until I was almost full and didn't eat a ton of sweets. However, as I enterered high school, I started stress eating and eventually gained weight. By my senior year I was overweight and unhappy with my body. This was the very first time I had taken any real steps toward improving my habits and I lost about 30-40 pounds and was about about 160.

Right after high school I got married and started college. I didn't realize just how big of a transition this would be or how difficult it would be to maintain my healthy lifestyle. Over time, i gained back all of my weight lost and then some. I wanted to get back on track so I would yo-yo diet often. It seemed like every week I was promising to do better but ended up doing worse than ever!

At one point during my college career I was working two or three jobs and continuing as a full time student. I was also experiencing marital issues and was in the process of getting a divorce. Instead of truly focusing on myself and my health, I turned to other even more damaging relationships. Needless to say, this was the most difficult point in my life and I had certainly gained the most weight during this time.

When I graduated college and got rid of some very negative influences, I began to realize that working on my health and fitness goals was something that I could really committ to again and really began to enter the contemplation and preparation stage of change. (Yes! I was a Pych Major!)

But honestly, my biggest motivation and incentive for change occurred when I began seeing my now boyfriend. This is when I really started to make my fitness and nutrition goals a priority in my life. In March after several months of dating, we decided to move in together. Since then, we have made the commitment to get healthy together. Having that accountability and incentive to continue working towards my goals has been an absolute game changer for me. If you are struggling with motivation and accountability, you need to find someone close to you who has similar goals.

The biggest lesson I have learned so far is that, I'm happier when I'm on a sensible diet and exercise routine. I shouldn't change my lifestyle to loose weight (although it's an excellent plus), my lifestyle change should be because I want to be HAPPY! With that said, I'm learning how to balance good nutrition and not feel like I can't ever splurge.

    Glad to have you back in Deter mination and Accountability team! You are such a lovely lady ( a little Irish in there, I suspect? ) and your dog is adorable.

    Change is not necessarily a bad thing- just something different. I think you'll have quite an adventure discovering all the things about Cassie as an adult you didn't acknowledge or kept hidden away. Onward and forward! The Lady has arrived!!!!
