I'm FINALLY Losing It ! !

I was a type 2 diabetic for over 10 years. Taking insulin prevented me from losing weight. I had bariatric surgery in May 2010, and have now lost 73 pounds. I have 57 left to go. It's amazing. I no longer have to use insulin or medication. This was the right choice for me!

My Goals:
1. Lose 130 pounds
2. Lessen or eliminate my diabetes.
3. Have a healthy, active older life.
4. Be a caring friend to those who need me.

My Program:
I must follow a very strict diet because of my surgery. So far it has been no problem to follow it. I move to phase 4 of the diet on October 31. That's the same day my husband and I leave for a Caribbean cruise. Phase 4 will allow me to have grains and starchy vegetables as well as protein foods, fruits, and other vegetables. My diet is very low calorie and therefore is medically supervised. Once I reach my goal weight, the calories will be increased to maintain a healthy weight.

Personal Information:
I am from East Tennessee, not far from the Great Smoky Mountains. I used to love mountain hiking before my weight prevented that much movement.

I have been married for 34 years, and have two grown daughters.
They are wonderful, intelligent young women, very talented, and well-liked by their friends.

I studied music in college, then went to nursing school. I finished my bachelor's degree in 2004, in Health Sciences Education.

I used to work full time (and sometimes more!) as a clinical supervisor and benefits administrator for a regional health insurance company. My job was demanding but very interesting. A lot of times it prevented me from getting the exercise and good nutrition I need.As of today, I am no longer working - our company was bought and I was laid off. I'm using my free time to get healthy, and return to school.

Other Information:
My favorite book is the Bible - what an inspiration! I also like Sir Walter Scott's novel, Ivanhoe; and all of Jane Austen's works. I am also a big fan of Agatha Christie mysteries, and would like to try writing a novel some day.

I go to the symphony, theater (I love Shakespeare), and ballet and dance programs. I love to sing, and used to perform professionally.

Besides my husband, my two daughters are the loves of my life. It was hard to see them grow up and move away. One is in Indiana, and the other was in Atlanta for a while. She's home now, but will possibly be going back to Atlanta in the future. Since my husband's company has him working in Ohio right now, I'm pretty much alone. but that gives me time to do some of the things I love, such as reading, sewing, and traveling. I love to go on cruises and visit interesting places.
