I'm a teacher whose been bitten by the travel bug!!! After graduating from teachers college, and having spent 3 or so years abroad during my studies, I moved to France. - Not exactly the ideal destination for a gal trying to loose a few pounds. Over the year I put on 4 kilos, and now I'm trying to loose 10.

Then I moved to Costa Rica to do an MA in Peace Education at the UN mandated University for Peace. It's so hard to balance the social and cultural experiences of traveling ...

Then I moved to Costa Rica to do an MA in Peace Education at the UN mandated University for Peace. It's so hard to balance the social and cultural experiences of traveling with a healthy lifestyle. WIth support and solidarity from my spark friends, I began to make some progress on my weight loss journey.

Now I am heading home to Toronto, Canada for the summer. The goal is to continue with the new lifestyle while I'm back home, and maybe even get my parents to lose a few pounds with me. It's not going to be easy with the summer coming. I know there will be so many food gatherings - BBQs, pub nights, etc - with old friends. I am excited to go home, and I am committed to my September 1st goal of 125.

Hey! Are you still on here? I have no excuse for going MIA. A lot has changed though, and I was so touched when I logged on last week and saw the sparkmail you had sent me when I stopped logging on. It really meant a lot. So I hope you are here still! If not, I'll be here when you come back. emoticon

That's AWESOME! You so deserve to see results (and big ones)! This is going to work - you're going to get where you want to go.

Hearing from you made my day : ) A great way to start the morning, so hopefully we can both kick butt today.

Hey, I understand what you mean about trying to balance healthy lifestyle with all the fun and interesting things we do and taste in a foreign country. I live in Brazil and work as an English teacher, which is a great lifestyle, but there are definately some unique challenges. Hang in there! You already know that traveling and living in another culture is well worth the effort. Let's keep in touch.

I have a really hard time with craving junk food and then going overboard too. My approaches so far are:

- Brush my teeth after I've eaten the small amount
- Set a time limit before I'm allowed to eat any more if I still want it
- Only buy/make a tiny amount of the thing I'm craving
- Destroy or give away most of the junk food BEFORE I start eating it so I only physically have as much as I should eat

Thanks! I can only do about 20 min of rowing so far, so switching between different machines makes it more fun and interesting. I miss doing 45 min straight on the elliptical, but my foot feels much better when I don't : ) There's something about going to the gym to work out that's really satisfying - like getting your work done at work/school and then not having to think about it once you get home.
