Healthy Habits for Life

My name is Phaedra. I am 37 and have three-year-old son. I've always had curves, but maintained a healthy weight prior to and during my pregnancy. My name is Phaedra. I am 37 and have three-year-old son. I've always had curves, but maintained a healthy weight prior to and during my pregnancy. A few weeks after my son was born in February 2010, I hadn't lost any weight and had gained 5 pounds instead. I maintained for a while and then, about a year later, around the holidays, I gained another 5 pounds. I stayed there for a while, feeling uncomfortable in all my clothes but unwilling to buy new ones. I made excuses for not exercising, some of which were perfectly reasonable as the primarily sole caretaker of one toddler (and part-time caretaker of a second toddler). I ate what two toddlers ate. I took walks with the boys to the playground but sat on my butt when we got there. The holidays came around again, and I got myself some new clothes that would fit. I was bigger than I'd ever been and tried to hide, but I continued to do nothing about it. The new year of 2012 rolled in, and I rolled on up another five pounds. The clothes I had owned less than a month became tight. I saw the rolls beginning to form, and my belly was so round I could barely see my toes! This was the breaking point for me. I had heard about Sparkpeople a few months before, but wasn't ready to commit to the effort it was going to take to lose "the baby weight". But on January 11, 2012, I joined Sparkpeople and set a goal to lose 30 pounds by the middle of June. I weighed in at 130, my goal weight, just a couple of days after my goal date! UPDATE January 2013 was my 1-year Sparkversary and I am down to 122! I am now transitioning to maintainence and am going to focus on increasing muscle and decreasing fat.

Current Status:
FOXYPHAEDRA Started a two-week clean eating plan on Saturday, and the scale is showing it. Just a pound down, but still, after six weeks of maintaining 124-125, I'm happy to see the number going back down again!

My Program:

Eating mostly whole foods/ minimal refined grains (esp wheat)

Personal Information:
I live in Philly. I'm currently a SAHM but worked in a law office before the kiddo.

Other Information:
UPDATE: April 30, 2012 The old clothes fit! Still 5 pounds away from my goal weight with 4 weeks to go, but I'm trying not to worry about it too much because ALL my pre-baby clothes fit! HOOORAYYY!!!!! UPDATE June 18, 2012: I made it to my goal weight! And only 2 days "late"! I can't believe it! That five pounds took FOREVER (well, close to two months!) But I did it! This morning I was even under the 130 hash mark! Whew, not a fluke! I weigh 130!!! Haven't weighed this in almost 3 years, since I was first pregnant with my son. 30 pounds isn't that much compared to a lot of people, but I worked hard and am very proud of myself for coming this far. : ) June 26 UPDATE: Gonna get fit, run a 5K, lose 5 more pounds. Update Fall 2012: After working hard during July and August, I finally lost 5 more pounds to get down to 125. Then I gained back four pounds over Halloween. Took two weeks to gain 4 pounds and 6 weeks to lose it again! Gonna do my darnedest to maintain over the holidays!

Thanks for the info!

I've been using 5lb dumbbells for a while, but really needed to upgrade. I just bought a set that is adjustable from 5lbs up to 20lbs each (2 small dumbbells) sinc I don't have much space for exercising or gear. Good to know about only needing one kettlebell.

THANKS! emoticon

Kettle bells have always enticed me so... What types of exercises are you doing with them? I hear they are a great work out :)

Thanks so much for the goodie! We are so happy! And congrats to you as well -- will this be your first niece/nephew? Being an aunt is wonderful! We currently have one niece and three nephews and love them to BITS! As Andy told me the other day, he loves those kids so much, it's incredible to think that we will love our own baby that much more! Have an awesome day!
