Starating a whole new way of life

My name is Melissa, I'm 27 years old and I have a 1 year old son. I have lived my entire life overweight. It was never something I was ashamed of, I have always thought that I was beautiful both inside and out. I think that is what has always prevented me from losing the weight, I never really thought it was a problem. I have finally come to realize that it is a problem, feeling beautiful on the outside doesn't mean that my body is doing well on the inside... I discovered when I was pregnant ...
My name is Melissa, I'm 27 years old and I have a 1 year old son. I have lived my entire life overweight. It was never something I was ashamed of, I have always thought that I was beautiful both inside and out. I think that is what has always prevented me from losing the weight, I never really thought it was a problem. I have finally come to realize that it is a problem, feeling beautiful on the outside doesn't mean that my body is doing well on the inside... I discovered when I was pregnant that I'm a type 2 diabetic. I know it is 100% weight related and I can change this! During my pregnancy I stuck to my diet completely and never gained a pound, I wasn't doing it for myself, I was doing it for my son; his health completely depended on how I treated my body and for him I made the right choices. Shortly after he was born I was thinner then I had been in years, but I fell right back into my old bad habits. I ended up gaining back all but 3 pounds. The weight gain didn't bother me for a long time but I'm starting to feel uncomfortable in my own skin, I don't recognize the girl looking back at me in the mirror. And whats even worse, my son is starting to pick up my bad habits. I finally realized that I don't need to do this just for me, I have to make real changes for life, for my baby. I know it won't be easy, but I want to completely change my way of life so that my son will grow up healthy. I want to be able to teach him to make healthy choices everyday by leading by example.

My Goals:
To lose 10 pounds a month

To not quit because I had a bad day!

To get outside with my son!

To be excited to wear a bathing suit this summer

I want to learn a healthy way of eating that is more than just a diet, but a way to eat for life. I want to get down to a healthy weight and find fun ways to exercise everyday that my son can participate in too

My Program:
watching my calories, sugar and fat.

Walking 2.5 miles at least 3 times a week

making sure I log on to spark people everyday!

I had gotten Dejorno pizza with mushrooms and spinach so at least if I have a serving size its only 260 calories and I can have some vegies to help fill me up. This way I won't feel guilty :D

Hello! thanks, your son is cute too! They do grow up fast i cant believe he is 4 months already! And he is getting so big he was so tiny when he was born now hes a chunker! That's one reason why i want to loose weight and get healthy, to set a good example for my son, my husband works out every week day, he is in the army so he has to do pt.
I just joined spark a couple weeks ago, that is good to hear about your friend i want to loose about 90 lbs but 60 will put me back at my pre preg weight so i will be happy with that too!

I hope i can help keep you motivated as we do this 8 week challenge!
