Every day is a journey...the journey itself is home

My husband and I are OTR truck drivers, with some significant weight to lose. We have been driving for 5 years, and with the habits we formed out here (long hours sitting, eating unhealthy foods at truck stops, snacking on fatty foods while driving)....it has just gotten way out of hand.

It is time to do something, and I figured I'd try to get some online support. If I can participate here as much as I do on Myspace, I might actually stay motivated, and I can keep my husband ...

We have 2 dogs, they are Basenjis (barkless dog) and they travel with us. I already take them for walks; one of my first goal is to increase the distance & frequency of their daily walks.

Hiya i read your introduction on the messageboards
first off WELCOME emoticon I know you will love it here.
You have alread taken one of the big steps :) time to let the rest fall into place.
I would suggest diving on in ... for good recipes try the sparkpeople recipe link ... there are also great recipes on vebweb.com ... but as the url says it is a vegetarian website ... but you can always add meat to them and so forth.
your story sounds awesome and i really do wish you the best of luck in your journey. I hope you are able to inspire your husband too :)

Welcome!

Keep those puppies walkin/! emoticon I miss having a dog to help out, but I don't miss the special obstacles. I just have to get used to the fact that some of the obstacles don't exist now. Wishing you the best in the journey~!

Danielle, a crowbar and a stick of butter sounds pretty good. emoticon

Was your baby you placed for adoption, born around 6 a.m.? I'm curious because I read astrology charts for people. A February baby means your child was most likely an Aquarian, which is a very smart child, who is given a great deal of adult attention.

I know you will do well in getting your health back again. emoticon

Hello and welcome to Sparkpeople.com,

I'm pretty new at this myself, but wanted to let you know that it's o.k. to just jump right in and play, i.e. "click. click. click". It's how I have been learning my way around. So far I have encountered only splendid, encouraging and helpful people. I hope you try isometric exercise, it's perfect for adults with mobility issues, chronic pain, have been sedentary for a while, or who tire easily. Yet even if you're at the top of your game, isometrics can give you the added edge towards meeting your goals, even if that is finishing a triathlon! emoticon
You can find it on my page, just click the "Isometrics For The Rest of Us" icon. Stop by and say hello. It's Spark Time!
