Losing is Winning

Until 2002, I was an overweight kid who continued to stay that way throughout my teenage years. My weight caused me to be introverted and to shy away from making friends or involving myself in situations where I might bring attention to myself. Until 2002, I was an overweight kid who continued to stay that way throughout my teenage years. My weight caused me to be introverted and to shy away from making friends or involving myself in situations where I might bring attention to myself. During a college summer break in 2002, I managed to lose a lot of weight and I went back to school almost 50 lbs thinner. The response I received gave me the drive to continue losing weight and by that December, I had lost 90 lbs. While I was the thinnest I've ever been, I fell in love with an amazing man (who is my husband and the father of our beautiful son). I don't want to sound like I'm blaming him, but he had terrible eating habits and so I found myself falling away from the healthy pattern that helped me lose my weight. I began to pack on the pounds little by little during the first 3 years of our marriage until I reached 200 lbs. In July 2006, I found out I was pregnant and over the course of my pregnancy I reached 250 lbs! Thankfully, I lost 30 lbs after giving birth to my son but I have gained a few back in the last month or so. My husband and I have been ready to expand our family again but I have had some female health issues that my doctor says is likely tied to my weight. This was the wake-up call I needed to get myself into gear and finally shed all this weight I'm carrying around for good. I tried using Sparkpeople a few months ago but lost my motivation after a day or so. This time around, I've recruited my husband and we're both taking this journey together so that we can model a healthy lifestyle for our son (and hopefully future children!).
