becoming fit

Hi. I'm Melanie. I used to come to spark all the time and lost 35lbs. I've kept most of it off for the most part, but I am not at my lowest weight I ever was. I figured I should head back to spark because I'm part of a fitness challenge at work and I've been spreading the word about what an excellent resource Spark People is. Plus, I'm trying to slim down a bit as I train for my first marathon on May 15th and as I go into the climbing season (spring is my climbing season).

My Goals:
To run faster and climb harder.

My Program:
I love being active. I always have. So just giving myself time to be active

Continuing to eat more foods that benefit my body nutrionally versus foods that are useless to my body. I do my best to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies daily, and my body has adapted to wanting that.

Drink water and recovering well after exercise is key for me, so I'm not starving the next day.

Personal Information:
LIFE:
I live in wisconsin. I'm 30 years old. I'm a physical therapist and a student hot air balloon pilot.
HOBBIES:
I love being active and I love being outdoors. Flying hot air balloons is my greatest passion, but I also love to run, climb, camp, hike, bike, ect.

I have a hard time sitting down for a long period of time unless I'm completely exhausted.. which is just one reason why marathon training has been fun.

I was just looking at some pictures of Emily and I climbing while our daughter was 10 weeks. It is all about how you deliver. She had a C-Section so the recovery time is a bit more for obvious reasons.

I have Trad climbed at Overlook in Sedona and Tom's Thumb in Phoenix. If you are a sport climber than the Pit is cool in Flagstaff and Queen Creek has a bunch of sport routes. We are not huge outdoor climbers just because of the time it takes up. I have only been outdoors a few times with a pretty experienced Trad climber. Emily has never Trad climbed but she has Sport a lot of routes. Problem is neither of us has been on the sharp end of a route. Not that big of a deal when you are sporting, but we just never made time to get certified (I know it isn't necessary, but we like to be safe).

I would have to recommend the places I stated above, especially Overlook in Sedona. It is beneath a tourist lookout and it feels pretty cool to be climbing what others are just admiring for a view. The routes vary in class and if you like cracks there is a famous 3 crack route that everyone loves. I have a book of AZ climbing so if you need some advice on one you hear about I can tell you what I have found.
