I'm an Aerospace Engineer and Commercial pilot in Southern California. I joined SparkPeople in January 2009 with goals of losing 30 pounds and getting off cholesterol drugs to get health insurance. In December, the month before I joined, I weighed 222. I weighed 219 when I joined SparkPeople. By December of 2009, I had lost 30 pounds and weighed 192.
My goal was to reach 190 by June 7, 2009. On June 7, 2009 I weighed 192. Two pounds short, but a total loss of 30 pounds in just over 5 months. Not too bad I guess.
Shortly after losing all the weight, I lost my job. Over the next 18 months I gained much of the weight back as I was looking for work and the bills piled up. I also got away from Sparkpeople during that period.
I am now back at work and starting over at Sparkpeople. After my first week back, I have dropped 5 pounds and feel like I'm getting back on track.
I'm trying to get down to 190 lbs. I also want to get completely off my cholesterol drugs.
I lift weights 3-4 days a week and do cardio 4 or 5 days a week for 30 minutes. I also play tennis once a week.
I try to do my cardio a few hours apart from weights, which means I end up working out twice a day on some days. Not too easy since I work full time a spend 3 1/2 hours a day commuting. No excuses though. It's too important to not find the time.

Do you still need to take cholesterol drugs? If so, everyone is different and you may have already tried this, but... Daily oatmeal or oat bran got me off cholesterol drugs and has kept me off cholesterol drugs. I just need to make sure I get oatmeal/oat bran with at least 2 grams of SOLUBLE fiber 5 days a week and my cholesterol remains normal. One of my favorite things is to mix instant oatmeal, oat bran, dried fruit, and boiling water and bake it as cupcakes. (It surely hasn't been my weight loss that is responsible, because I've gained back he 35 lbs I lost with SparkPeople and then some.

I'll keep an eye open for you Tim, we do have another active gentleman on the BUMS AND TUMS team so you won't necessarily be overwhelmed with female input!

Hello Tim, its nice to keep meeting those of us who all joined at the same time through the sp class - must admit, didn't think I'd still be going for goal two yrs later! But Im doing ok - just fine tuning a bit now!
Good to see you back on the threads - you have quite the responsible job and health insurance is definitely a plus!

Hey Tim, thanks for the message you posted on my page a few weeks ago - I've been meaning to thank you for it for a while now. Things have been busy at work and outside work - seems like there are never enough hours in the day sometimes! I hope things are going all right for you on the job front and that you're doing well outside the work stuff, too. Be well!
