The Journey of the NiteBird

In May of 2008, I embarked on this adventure of changing my lifestyle and taking better care of my health.

SparkPeople has offered advice, information, and fun which has helped me stay on target. The best part, though, has been the like-minded travelers whose journeys offer ME the best advice, information, and damn! if they ain't FUN to boot!

The most difficult thing for me is being more consistently active. As much as I like having DONE exercise & do feel better--no doubt about it!--I fight with myself every day to do SOMETHING. It is getting easier, but only in small ways. Guess I'll have to keep building on those....

I write science fiction, poetry, stage & screenplays, and am currently working on a SF novel for YA. I am currently running a poetry workshop, and am also a freelance editor.

I am the Events Manager for The Plant City Community Choir which in its 3 years has grown from 12 voices to 40! We have been invited back for the 3rd time to EPCOT to sing in the 300-voice Massed Choir for Christmas. This year we had to turn down invitations to sing at local venues due to being too busy!!!

I lost Dad 8/9/10 & Mom 5/20/11.
I am mourning them and the loss of their company and love, but I have been able to not use the grief as an excuse to stuff my face.

Your note made me laugh- no problems on the 'lack of acknowlegment' issue. It was just a cheer and a hooray for you at taking off as you have.
I'm moving mine more slowly than you, but I love, love this getting healthier thing. Over 100 pounds off is nothing to sneeze at, regardless of the speed.
Forsooth, we are both winners!

Surprisingly, I might have noticed you hadn't replied, but that I have apparently crash landed off the wagon these previous months! Your humor always makes me smile, I am glad to find a note from you at any time! Life has been, well interesting, to say the least for the past few months around here. I am glad you are here and look forward to your notes whenever they may appear!

I was laughing at your description of humidity, from another living in a state of humidity, my sympathies! May we all survive summer!

Greetings from Michigan! 85 pounds!!! That is so awesome! You will hit the 100 mark before you know it. I think I finally got my Michigan routine back in order. It was a little hard at first, especially since I did not re-join the gym back here. They raised their prices to the point that it just didn't make any sense for me to join. So, I've had to do a change up, but maybe that's what I needed. I'm doing the Biggest Loser DVD's, and now I've dropped to my lowest weight in probably over 10 years! And I'm just 3 pounds away from 30 pounds off. Yeah! Take care. Donna

I hope June is doing well by you, Lark. Good job keeping up the physical activity. You're in a unique position of Knowing You Can Do This because YOU HAVE BEEN! What's that on the horizon? Is it.... dropping below 200? Why yes, it is... and it's growing nearer!!!!

Hey!

I am sending out a personal invite to all my spark to The Rocky Summer Challenge, a challenge that is designed to help you build strength in your core, upper body and lower body along with building up your endurance in cardio while also combining the fun of “The Biggest Loser” weight loss idea. This challenge starts on June 1st and will last 4 weeks. Sign up are on my team, “The Challenge” which is located on my sparks page. (The thread is in the introduce yourself forum). More info is included there too (you don’t have to join in order to see the info) and you can email me a request for more details before joining.

We have done this challenge before (before the team was started) and it was a huge success. The request from spark buddies, who took part in this last time, has been tremendous so it’s coming back!!!

I encourage you all to invite a buddy to the team (everything is more fun with a friend) and if you do so, I’ll be pairing you both (or how ever many) onto the same team together. Remember the more the merrier!
