I am mommy to five and a PAW (Proud Army Wife) to Sunil. I have recently been on my weight loss journey now for about two years. I have finally made the commitment to excercise and eat right (of course, that doesn't mean I don't have my share of setbacks from time to time!)
When I was working and my husband first joined the army back in 2008, I joined Curves, but then he got stationed in Texas and we moved there. I was lazy for many months while I adjusted to life as an army wife(totally different than when I was in the army myself for eight years!), not bothering to excercise much more than my arm with the door handle of the refrigerator.
We then were able to realize our dream of sending our children to good schools over in India and, of course, I was to go with them and help them get settled while my husband went on his first deployment. So about sixmonths ago, the children and I left for India.
I got terribly sick over there and lost a lot of weight (about 30 lbs). This was the turning point for me. I realized that there actually was someone hiding under all that fat and I owed it to myself and my family to get back into shape!
I have completed a beginner's running program that I found on running.about.com. This is a big accomplishment for someone who said she would never run again after getting out of the army!I'm also looking forward to starting the P90X program with my husband when he gets back from his deployment. Currently I'm walking daily due to a temporary physical issue and I'm tracking my steps.
But, of course, that is not where the story ends. I still have issues to deal with like emotional eating, smoking, and anxiety. But join me on my journey, leave a comment on my Sparkpage and add me as your friend. We'll do this together!

AP: Think about a new name--I picked this because I want to take this year and a half in India to lose weight, get strong and toned and rid myself of bad eating habits. So I went to account preferences and changed it. (Did that today--my new username is FITSHELLYINDIA)
2. Add a strengh training program to my already established cardio routine.
AP: Attend the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays or follow Sparkpeople's strength workout.
3. Commit to drinking those eight glasses of water each day.
AP: Drink one cup of water with every meal. Drink one cup of water one hour before working out and two cups of water immediately after. Drink one cup water before bed time

I am originally from Elbridge, NY. I joined the Army as a bandsman when I was seventeen and served for almost 8 years.
I met the man of my dreams in 2003 and we've been married now for almost 7 years. We have five beautiful children ages 12, 9, 6, 4, and 3 years old.
We are staying in India while hubby deploys. The children are going to school there and are learning the language very quickly--unlike me!
I got serious about my fitness about two months ago although I joined Spark People quite a while before that.
I'm imagining myself running across the finish line of that 5K, and soon fitting into those size 9 jeans!!
BTW, stopped ounting calories--I try eat healthy, stop when I am feeling full-not stuffed, and I wait for my stomach(not my mind) to tell me when I am hungry again. I needed to get to the emotional reasons for my eating--I am still a work in progress!
