yes. you. can.

I joined Spark Feb. 08. I liked to work out and knew a little about nutrition. Using Spark's tracker helped me lose 5 pounds. I was in the best shape of my life and happy with how I looked. I've always been curvy and I just figured that was the size I'd always be.

I joined Spark Feb. 08. I liked to work out and knew a little about nutrition. Using Spark's tracker helped me lose 5 pounds. I was in the best shape of my life and happy with how I looked. I've always been curvy and I just figured that was the size I'd always be.

Then I got pregnant, gained too much, didn't lose all the baby weight, got pregnant again, gained too much, and found myself in that typical mom-weight loss story.

I made a decision to change the direction of that story. I learned a lot more about nutrition. I eat whole foods and listen to my body. I don't believe that all calories are created equal.

More important than that number on the scale is the fact that I FEEL better than I ever have. I am enjoying life day to day. I am active with my family.

With the help of my husband I have become a runner. It's something the 4 of us do together. We call it "happy family time." It's something I do alone and call it "free therapy." I meet girlfriends for a run instead of happy hour. I run with my dad, something that had been a silent dream since watching him run marathons as a child.

2012 is about the love of running. That indescribable feeling. The miles. The training. The unknown: the marathon!

And now it's 2013. I know the marathon and I love running even more. This year will be about more miles and speed! weeeee!!

It feels good to surprise yourself. I'm doing things in my 30s that I used to watch other people do. We are so much stronger than we think.

Hi PrettyFittie!

Just saw your note! I've been thinking a lot of about the coming running schedule. I have the Nike Marathon in October and then we have our next half-marathon/full marathon at Disney with the Dopey Challenge. But that is not a PR setting event - we have fun doing it and taking photos:)

I love that you see a 1:55 in my future. I hope I earn that but I think my best bet will be a spring race - that's so far! Chicago isn't as cold as your neck of the woods, but it's not too great. I love running in the snow and cold but I rarely set PR's when it's below 30. I want a 1:55 by the spring though (very very badly) because I want to make a play for a sub 1:55 to 1:50 in the fall. I know that's a big jump but I will work for it.

I cannot wait to see how you do at the Monster Dash. You will have all the summer miles and all the marathon fitness and it will propel you like a rocket. If you've run 1:51 twice, you are definitely overdue for a PR - I think you and I are running sisters. Bad weather is not our friend so who knows - you still sub-2'd in the worst heat. 1:49 might be nothing for you! I see a 1:47!!! Or maybe even a 1-4-5!!!!! :D

I am off to check on all your marathon updates!

thanks for the kudos! what can I say? I run with fast women! :D I feel like I can make a real play for 1:55 and 1:50, god willing! But to be in your "company of running" is also making me smile.
Did not realize that your pink race was Women Rock in Minnesota - I'm a fan of Team Ortho because the races can be hectic but they are always fun.
yours in training, m
