Today is a good day to be the very best person I can be.
A little about me... my name is Whitney, and I am happy to say I am now living my life to the fullest with my commitment to a healthy lifestyle. I had a couple of rough transition years from college to married, working adulthood, and decided back in April 2010 that I was DONE being an unhealthy loaf, and was ready to reclaim my LIFE, fully and mindfully in all areas. I love yoga (and all it entails) and am trying to incorporate the philosophies of breath and inner peace in my daily life. I also enjoy running and circuit/strength training! I am looking for a network of support in continuing to be positive and make healthy choices in my life.
Reaching "goal weight" is not the end here. It's the very beginning of a whole new life, a new perspective, and new challenges. Each day I wake up I need to consciously DECIDE to stick with my healthy patterns, and be mindful when I do not.

*HOW DID I LOSE 40+ POUNDS??*
For those of you who have asked me for tips/advice, or "How did you do it??", please refer to my blog from November 28, 2010 titled "'How I DID IT!': My Story & Tips For The Journey".
*WHAT EXERCISES DO I USE TO GET & STAY FIT??*
A lot of people have been asking me specific questions about my exercise program... To save myself the time of responding the same things to so many of you, I've written a DETAILED blog about my fitness plan! PLEASE check out my blog from Jan. 17, 2011 titled "Exercises That Changed My Life & BODY!! (Tips For Gettin' FIT!)" if you have any questions about my plan and what works for ME! This is not a SET way to do things, and in my health and weight maintenance I often change things up a lot. I practice yoga regularly and run as my primary exercises lately.
*WHAT DO I EAT TO LOSE WEIGHT & STAY HEALTHY?*
My nutrition/eating patterns have continued to shift, evolve, and change with me as I've maintained my weight since November 2010. I have gone through many stages of eating, which I think is very important for each of us in adjusting to changes in life and finding a healthy balance through it all. Currently, I have been eating plant-based (vegan), with lots of vegetables, whole grains, and legumes (minimal refined/processed food and no animal flesh or products). This way of eating has helped me feel "lighter" each day than when I was consuming lots of animal proteins and foods, and I feel more at peace with my food. If you're interested in specific nutrition guidance, please check in with me for more information. I believe there is not "one diet" or way of living that is going to work perfectly for everyone, so you should not look for "the specific way" solely based upon the experience of someone else; find what works for you and your body and life!

UPDATED for 2012:
* Continue to adjust and refine my eating and exercise habits from 2010 and 2011.
* Make consistently better choices in my eating, exercise, and thoughts than I have in the past.
* Find success in WAKING UP for my morning workouts (gym, running, or yoga)
* Run at least one more half marathon this year, and meet or beat my time from 2011: 2:04!
* Commit more consistently to my yoga practice for peace of mind, body, and soul.
*FUTURE: To be a yoga-practicing, stroller-jogging, healthy-eating MOM who sets a great example for her kids!
Step by step... Moderation and sustainability is key for me!
* Exercising at least 3-5 times a week.
* Healthy breakfast - every day!
* 7-8 hours of sleep per night (bedtime by 10:00 PM!)
* Fresh fruits and veggies daily! (dark leafy greens, baby!)
* High intake of natural protein whole grains, lower refined carbs and sugars
* Allow moderate consumption of clean sugars and treats-- lots of homemade goods
* NO GUILT!! If I slip-up, I move on. Regrets and guilt are wasted emotions. I work to "own my choices" be they positive or less-than-positive ones.
I am a tall girl at 5'10". I am happily married, no kids (yet), and 2 fur-baby cats. I am a holistic health coach and my business is "She Lives Fit." I also teach private voice lessons.
