Here is a picture for my own personal motivation. In this pic from 2007, I weighed 165lbs. (I'm 5'8") but I was so strong! As much as I would like to get to my own magic number (150lbs), I know that I'm more motivated by clothing sizes than what the scale is telling me!

Turning 30 - Making Changes!
In search of a healthier, happier me! Here's my story in a little tiny nutshell. I've always been heavy. It has always just been that way. An accepted fact. When I was 18 I enlisted in the Army and even though I ran once or twice a day and went to the gym, the least I ever weighed (as an adult) was 150lbs. I can remember the day when the scale said "150lbs" it was a momentous occasion because it marked the first time I didn't have to have my BMI calculated with the dreaded "tape test". I got out of the Army ~7 years ago and the weight has come and gone based primarily on my activity level. After I graduated from college (in 2007) I took a job out in Utah where I rowed a raft down rivers for 6-10 hours per day. At the end of that summer I was jacked! When I got back home, I started working in a dreaded 'cube'. The weight came back with a vengeance. Fast-forward 3 years. I'm in my second year of grad school living in the rustbelt city of Buffalo, NY. I'm turning 30 on 10/27. I've decided that it is time for me to take control of my health and my happiness! I joined the local gym on the first day of the fall semester 2010. I just recently had my 6 week weigh-in. I'm giving myself until the end of the school year (Mid May 2011) to get it together!! I've been having some really great success with working out and changing my diet so it is healthy and NOT from the food court at school. I never stop and pick up Panera Bread on my way home anymore. I grocery shop and don't avoid the produce section!! I'm making big PROGRESS!! And I am excited and it isn't just a phase! I am doing 3 5Ks over the next 3 weeks. I'm excited!!

My Goals:
-Wear pants in a single-digit size -Feel healthy -Get my 5K time below 30 minutes
My Program:
-I do cardio 5-6 days per week -I meet with my trainer 2 times per week -I eat a ridiculous amount of produce -I've stopped eating out regularly and now if I'm going to a restaurant, I consult their website for nutritional information first.
Personal Information:
I'm originally from the Hudson Valley, NY, but I'm currently in grad school in Buffalo. I tend to go through cycles of motivation (6 weeks or so - high motivation and then 2 weeks trying to feel that way again). I don't know how to overcome it.
Other Information:
I'm super outdoor-sy and living in a city is stifling. I get out of town as often as my school work will allow. I am really into running for the first time since I was in the Army.
