Where'd She Go?

1/30/11 - I've been away quite a while but, now that I have been a non-smoker for 1 year, 8 months, and since my thyroid issue has stabilized a bit, I feel ready to go again. It helped that the nutritionist I saw recently pointed out that my calorie intake was too low. I don't know if upping it will help me lose weight faster, but I sure feel better.

11/16/09- I've been pretty slim most of my life, but after recently quitting smoking (again)(6 months ago), and being diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and ending a long relationship, and consoling myself with Haagen Daz, I've gained 25 pounds and I want the old me back only better (stronger). I keep thinking about a quote from Theodore Isaac Rubin, "Involvement precedes interest". It's true for me and I'm starting to get more involved and, consequently, more interested in doing what I need to do to get where I want to go. Yea!

My Goals:
I want to run a 5K and lose 25 pounds and get stronger.

My Program:
I plan to start with 1.5 miles 5 days a week on the treadmill or elliptical trainer (which I've already started) and then add free weights. I plan to rely on the "Flat Belly Workout" DVD (which has a nice aerobic warm-up and "multi-tasking" weighted exercises). This will be good for a start - "small steps" I'm beginning to understand the concept of starting small.

Other Information:
I'm beginning to see that results-driven workouts may not be for me (even though I want to achieve those results in the long run). I think the small steps concept is the one that will entice me to stay the course. I want to concentrate on exercising for the fun of it and for feeling better.

Welcome to the Couch to 5k running group!!!! Stop by the message board and introduce yourself to the team. On the team page you will find a thread for each training week. Click on week one and post were you are at in your training. This is a great way to meet others who are in the same phase of training as you. Some of my best friends were in my training week one and we worked through the program together sharing victories, questions, comments, and ideas. I look forward to learning more about you. I will be popping in on the Weeks 1 - 3 training to help answer any questions that might pop up and to cheer you on to your goals! Be blessed! Be a runner!
