Breaking Free From The Bondage Of Obesity~ My Journey From 271 lbs to 135 lbs!

July 27th, 2007- I SNAPPED! I had reached my highest weight (271 lbs) and I was sick of being fat. It was then that I made the commitment to change my life. Over the next two years I lost 136 lbs and am maintaining my weight loss well today. I do struggle with gaining and losing those last 10-15 lbs so my ultimate goal is to continue to make wise decisions in how I treat my body and soul. I work hard to stay active and eat healthy. I try to use moderation with all foods that I love.

I just ultimately want to feel healthy, comfortable, and at peace within myself and in this world. I've had a lot of ups and downs during this entire process of losing weight, and I feel like I'm a stronger person because of the challenges I have faced. But I have a challenge ahead. It's been 5 years since I went on that first real "I'm going to do this" diet. And now I have to learn to live a healthy life and keep the weight off forever. I'm looking ahead and anticipating more challenges. I'm here on Sparkpeople because I know I'll find the help, support, and encouragement that I need to keep this journey going.

So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun. ~ Ecclesiastes 8:15

I just read your "success story" and want to congratulate you on your successful weight loss!

Although I am older, you and I have lost about the same amount of weight (+/-) beginning and ending in the same range. I have been in maintenance for over a year now and am hanging in pretty well!!! It is a bit difficult trying to keep it between the goal posts when your natural 'filters' have been damaged by years (for me, anyway) of abuse.

Most recently, I had a 'holiday foodie + binge disease' come over me (not the bacterial kind, the lack of discipline kind) and have been having a time reigning myself back in, after toppling over 134 lbs, (I was maintaining 125 up to the weekend before Christmas). I am finally getting back to my new normal. Whew! Maintenance vs. old habits -- still want to battle it out now and then. Even after you've conquered the beast once, it comes back to life --- be armed and ready! lol (that is why I am still here on SP--it helps).

It's been great reading about you and 'meeting you' ~

I also added you as a Spark friend. Looking forward to 'seeing' you around.
