Doing This for Health's Sake

When I discovered that my blood pressure was elevated, a couple of years ago, I set about to change my lifestyle. For awhile, it went okay but I faced resistance from my husband who didn’t believe that a lifestyle change would do anything except make us both unhappy.

Eventually, I opted to take the medication my doctor recommended and to just try to do a little better with salt and fat intake. It is hard to stay on a low sodium, low fat diet while cooking for a person who wants ...
When I discovered that my blood pressure was elevated, a couple of years ago, I set about to change my lifestyle. For awhile, it went okay but I faced resistance from my husband who didn’t believe that a lifestyle change would do anything except make us both unhappy.

Eventually, I opted to take the medication my doctor recommended and to just try to do a little better with salt and fat intake. It is hard to stay on a low sodium, low fat diet while cooking for a person who wants biscuits and gravy, fried chicken and beef roasts. Did I hear someone say torture? Oh. That must’ve been me. It was! That’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it.

I now weigh 10 pounds more than when I previously tried Spark People and feel unwell a lot of the time. When one is mid seventies, one notices those things more than ever and sometimes even wonders if life will continue or not.

My husband has four brothers, or rather “had“. Three of them have had major heart attacks in the past year and one did not survive. Their father and grandfather died from heart disease when they were younger than he is right now. He has finally emerged from a state of blissful ignorance into our common reality. At last, I have a partner in healthy living.

My short-term goal is to get all the "bad" foods out of our home.

Another goal: prepare delicious, heart-healthy foods for my hubby and me.

Long-term goal, 137 lbs

My Program:
Low sodium, wheat free diet. Increase water consumption to 8 C per day.

Work up an exercise program and stick with it.
