I'm engaged and ready to lose weight!
I'm trying to build a more positive outlook by seeing any success, no matter how small, as a success nonetheless. It's better to see your life as a bunch of small successes than one big failure, isn't it?
I've been fat for as long as I can remember. I was always the kid nobody would pass the ball to, to describe my younger self in a nutshell. I would have my moments, like begging my parents for diet pills for my birthday, but I was pretty okay with myself and never very overweight.
Then in high school, things got a lot tougher. Due to poor eating and exercise habits and good old puberty, I put on a lot of weight. As for my fellow students, they did more than not pass the ball to me. I entered cycles of starving and binging if I wasn't just plain binging . My mom was in an accident and the only way I knew how to make myself feel better was to eat. The weight kept on piling on and on, and I felt miserable all the time. My once outstanding grades were slipping because of all of the pressure, and it felt like the only thing I could be proud of was gone. I tried to drown myself in my bathtub. Strangely, what I found worse than that was when I shoved a toothbrush down my throat to make me vomit. I knew my life was out of control.
I ended up dropping out of school. I was home schooled for a year or two, but the time was mostly to recover and repair myself. In that time, I found Christ and met my now-fiance, David. I was happier than I had ever been, but I still felt that nagging in the back of my mind about my weight. I would often cry about it, but never thought I could do anything about it. I was fat. I thought I'd always be fat. So I tried to accept it. I never could.
In January, 2008, on the way home from clothes shopping, a couple of men made pig noises at me. I was devastated. It had been so long since I've been subjected to such childish mockery. I fell back into my cycles of starving and binging. Shortly later, I went for a doctor's visit and hopped on the scale while she was out of the room. That was when I realized that I was no longer the fat kid nobody trusted with the soccer ball, but an obese woman. Obese. That was when I knew I had to really take control.
I began to keep track of my calories and exercise in a journal. I started by playing short sessions of Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix and taking my dog out for short walks. I gave up soda and chips except for special occasions (and no, a sunset isn't special), and limited my consumption of pizza and ice cream. I bought a scale and started noticing small losses. I was really losing weight! By chance, I came by SparkPeople and was intrigued by its SparkPoint system! I began to do strength training and took up different activities like pilates, jogging, swimming, jump rope, elliptical training, and more. As healthy eating and regular exercise became was becoming more of a habit, the pounds kept shedding off, and I was becoming happier and healthier with each passing day. I am so proud of everything I've done, and I know I can lose the rest of the weight!
Now, would somebody mind passing me the ball?

Such a great motivator! Great work on your success. Makes me want to keep pushing to meet my goals.
Love your pup! Reminds me a little bit of my mix. We're not quite sure what he is since we rescued him from the shelter. They seemed to think he was a maltese poodle mix.
