Hi! My name is Karen and I'm here to get some motivation to continue on my journey of losing weight and becoming . . . actually, staying . . . healthy. I am 51 yrs old, been married for 34 yrs. to the same man, have 2 kids, 3 grandkids, 1 dog, 1 cat and live in the Panhandle of Texas.

My journey started years and years ago with no real results. Sure, I'd lose and then gain . . . just like everyone else here. Then I saw the picture shown here as my before pic taken in May 2004. OH MY GOSH!!! When did I get so fat??? That's when I decided it was time to do something.

I got online to search weight loss sites (for about the 100th time) and found one called "calorieking.com". I joined not only the online version but the "desktop" version also. After all, at the time, $70.00 (or so) was not too much to pay to help me keep track of my food, talk to people in my same situation and learn more about eating healthy.

The first thing I did was to cut out regular Dr. Peppers and I think that I lost 20 lbs. within a couple of months. Then it became an up and down thing.

Some things changed at CK and my SIL told me about SP that was a free site. So I thought it was worth checking out. I still go back and forth but, seem to be spending more time here lately. There are good and bad about each site but, this one is free . . . so that is a real plus. LOL!!

I have been off track for about 2 years now and I really need to get back on track. So I'm hoping that a couple of the teams I have joined will get me back in gear to relose the weight and then get to my ultimate goal of 145 lbs.

UPDATE 2009: Well, I didn't hit my goal by the time our son got married. So now I'm shooting for my 50th birthday in July 2009. I should be able to make this goal because in 41 weeks I only have to loose 18 lbs. . . . that's only .4 lbs per week. That is WAY managable!!! So here's to turning 50!!!!

UPDATE 2010: Okay it's 1-21-10 . . . Well, I didn't hit my 140 goal for 2009. However, I did manage to balloon up to 185 during the Thanksgiving holidays!!!! :o) So I am back to square one . . . however, I am already back to the 176-177's. And I've been stuck there for about a month. ;(

I was looking thru some photos and found one of me during the holidays of 2008 when I was at my lowest weight that I'd been in years . . . 154!!! That was actually on the same day that I quit smoking . . . 12-18-08. A year goes by and I'm up 30 lbs.!!!! GAG!!!

It's time to buckle down and get back into this program . . . or any program for that matter. So here are my new goals for 2010 . . . weigh 147 by the time I turn 51, get my AVON business up and running so that I'm making a profit and make PC this year, and quit stressing over everything . . . have some fun!!

So here's to 2010!!!

UPDATE 2010-11:
Well, I haven't hit any of my goals. :o( So I am starting over, again, for 2012. I am at about 173-5 depending on the day. My husband earned a trip to Jamaica at the end of March. So it's back to the gym . . . I did join a gym but haven't been since before Thanksgiving . . . to get in shape for the trip. And to get a tan before going. ;o)

Time to really start focusing!! I joined Weight Watchers several months ago and, just like the gym, I have not been since Thanksgiving. I need to focus on me this year and get this weight off of me.

I can do this!!!

Personal Information:
I'm 50 yrs young; weight 177 lbs (give or take depending on the day); and I'm 5'3" tall (or short if you ask my 6'4" hubby LOL!!)

I have been married to the same man for 31 years; we have two wonderful children who are grown and have moved away from home. We have two pets . . . a Dog and a Cat; we have one grand-daughter and one grandson.

Other Information:
Became an Avon Independant Sales Rep (5-14-09).

My favorite theme song is the one from "The Biggest Loser" . . . "What have you done today to make yourself feel proud!"

I love to work in my garden, interior designing and faux painting. Although I don't do these things for a living, I would like to. Maybe someday it will turn into a lucrative project. Right now, I do it only for me and my family.

I have recently dabbled in oil painting and like it really well. However, space and time has been a factor for me recently and I haven't been able to do it lately. I'm hoping to get back to it now that we are in our new home.
