I’m one of that rare breed: a native Floridian still living in Florida.

I’m a retired vet tech so I love nature: animals, oceans, beaches, forests, sailing; I also enjoy reading (a variety of genres but) mostly fantasy and nonfiction. Language and words are a joy to me, along with philosophy, theology, architecture, and arts in general. Personality typing (ie, Myers-Briggs) interests me (I’m INTx). And my DH of 37 years and I both enjoy model trains and our marine aquariums, and traveling around the state and lower southeast whenever possible.

I have a positive outlook, and am an inquisitive skeptic. I am spiritual but non-religious, and if pressed for a label would have to call myself eclectic pagan, leaning toward Druidism at the moment. When Christianity “failed” for me, I went on a search and have investigated a variety of other religions and cultural wisdoms, gleaning those which resonated with me and ignoring those which don’t.

I’m hoping to connect with others with similar goals, obstacles, and interests, and to encourage others to try the low-carb lifestyle. It’s an uphill battle, since our government and big-ag still have great influence on our nutritional recommendations. It’s why we’ve gotten in the health and nutrition fix we’re in now. It hurts me to see so many people on so many diet and nutrition sites struggling so hard and trying to do the “right” thing … and quoting all the wrong protocols: calorie-counting, eliminating any fat from their diets, "healthy grains", doing extreme or at least very strenuous exercise … and still unable to reach their weight or health goals. They assume they’re not doing “enough”, or not trying hard enough, and beating themselves up because it isn’t working. Well, it isn’t working because -IT- doesn’t work! Not because of any personal failure! I would like to try to break that cycle.

Thanks for adding your very valuable comments to my blog about Rosedale's approach. I still don't own the book, but will get it now. I'm wondering if it's worth starting a thread on the low-carb forum for all to see to discuss the differences between Atkins and Rosedale. I still have some questions, like how low would he go on carbs and whether he considers carbs from veggies essential because of the micronutrients they contain? I do think that lowering protein/calories or building more muscles is an issue I may have to try and am trying currently. If you find the book I would love it if you could do a review of it.

Thanks for the comment on my Rescue Animal blog. I had the same thought about the head of pride comment, but as you say, the point was the reunion!

I have been scanning through the large file of recipes you sent me (again, THANK YOU) and there are some very delicious looking ones to try. I SO appreciate the effort you took not only to send me the file, but putting the collection together. They will NOT be wasted!

I know CSA's vary in their quality. Maybe set up a visit to see what they are doing. If in doubt take a kid or two along and make it an "educational fieldtrip". Most good operations won't turn you down.
