SparkPeople has changed my mindset and my life! I have a story about why I got the weight, but after reading so many "why" stories, is that what is important? I suppose only so far as the story helps you change. The fact is I have it.

I'm here to stop carrying the equivalent of a young child. I already have one of those. By standardized weight calculations, I should lose 80 pounds, but my goal is 50 by the end of 2010. People's bodies are different, and I know when I was that 50 pounds lighter in the past, people worried I looked too thin. So I'm fine with that.

I want to be healthier, less self-conscious, and possibly attract more good from the universe into my life path.

My Goals:
To lose 50 pounds by November 2010 and become more fit!

My Program:
1) Walking 14-15 miles a week to start = cardio 4 days/week. Shoot for 1 half-marathon per month (my own routes).

2) Strengthening exercises 3 days/week.

3) Logging food/Nutrition guidelines for vegetarians

Personal Information:
I grew up in the Southwest but have lived in the Pacific NW for 25 years. My job allows me to work from home for hospitals around the country, so that is my form of "arm chair traveling." I've been a single parent for almost 9 years and have not had a vacation in 3. So Spark will be my "vacation" for myself.

Other Information:
My dream job is to work for a cancer nonprofit. I do anything in my power to support further research funding for pediatric cancers. Things I was shocked to learn along the way:
1) 46 people under age 20 are diagnosed each day in the US.
2) Cancer is the #1 disease killer of kids in the US , while breast cancer is the 6th most common cause of death by disease of women in America.
3) The Natl Cancer Institute (NCI) spends only 4% of its budget on all 12 of the pediatric cancers. Breast cancer receives significantly more federal and private funding.

Thanks for adding me as a friend!
I do feel very lucky to live on Cape Cod and to be so close to Boston. I try to get up there once a month in the warmer weather. I agree with you about Acoma Pueblo - it was a very moving, spiritual experience going there. I don't know about the long distance running, but I saw the church and heard the horrible story of how the indigenous people were enslaved to build it.

I doubt that this your life has been different the last 10 years from the prior 10 years, and the 10 before that. That isn't the way life works, nor our self-perpetuating experience of it. Life habits are just that, habits. There are lessons in them. Listen and learn, then and only then does life, and our experience of it change.

Everyone is alone. There is no one more lonely than those who have a lot of people around them. Being on your own in life is siimply perhaps a "forced" recognition of that fact. The only time we are not alone is when we unconditionally love and give.

Force yourself to stop fretting. Give what you want to receive.

emoticon Hi -- hope all's well. About your question whether others skip calorie counting for a day or two and then get back on track -- for me, until I get to a much better weight, I confine myself to a sweet treat maybe once a week. I'm really trying hard to make a lifestyle change where junk food, or unhealthier foods, are not a main part of my daily diet. I feel like the unmonitored eating is how I got to this weight in the first place, so I really want to change the habits and hope they will eventually just become automatic choices. Hang in there, and ultimately, you have to do what best for you and what you can live with. Good Luck! emoticon
