Just Keep Swimming

I want to update a bit since I wrote my intro 2 years ago. I'm 26 now and my son is 4 1/2 and in pre-school. I want all of you that are looking for motivation to keep reading because I was one of those that felt losing weight was totally hopeless. I wanted to get bariatric surgery and I had to jump through all the hoops in order to qualify. I begun going to a sports and rehab center...Well I changed my mind after losing some weight on my own with the advice of the physical trainers, dietitions, doctors, and family. I did this all on my own with the support of Spark and family. Today I weigh 158 lbs. A few more lbs and I will be golden. Ppl call me a dime today in my skinny jeans. I just shrunk out of my brand new size 10's so I'm about to say goodbye to the dubble digit jeans. Size 22 to a size 8????? Read on for my original intro from the day I created my spark page and begun my weight loss journey...................................
. Hey all! My name is Jess and Im a 24 year old single mother of a 3 yr old boy named Damien. Im also mega chunkey. I've always been a chunker, at least since I can remember. When I had my son it just seemed to get way out of control. Now I'm getting worried about adding on some health complications to the mess. I work as a CNA in a nursing home, which can be pretty laborous work. There is no room in my life to be tired and out of shape. Im starting school in January 2010 for my LPN and I want to look and feel my best because I know my plate is gonna be really full. Im a pretty motivated person but I never seem to be able to keep a good routine. Im hoping this time will be the one. Im totally open to making new friends and taking any suggestions. I have to thank my dietition for telling me about Sparks!!

My Goals:
I want to teach my son how to live a healthy lifestyle. So I have decided that It is time to learn myself. I want to maintain a daily calorie intake of about 1100-1300. I would like to make it below 200 lbs by my next birhtday, August 2010. My total weightloss goal is -120 lbs which would put me at a healthy 140 lbs. I was considering the gasteric bypass surgery but now that Ive been working with Sparks for almost 2 months and have already lost a significant amount of weight, I think Im gonna go for it all natural!! I also was going to participate in my local health and wellness center but that turned out to be over my budget as a PT student, PT CNA, and a mommy. So Ive started following the tips on Sparks fitness tracker. That is the newest addition to my new lifestyle. One step at a time, they say, gives you the best and most lasting results. Be it a year or longer, I can do this the hard way. I quit much harder habbits sucessfully, so Im soo ready for this one.

My Program:
Everything starts with picking the right food when I go shopping. I'll choose nonfat milk instead of 2% for example, or 12 grain bread as opposed to potato bread, Diet V8 Splash instead of regular juice. Portion control is the next step at every meal. Snacks are a majorly important part of my day. Without them I would end up eating too much of the wrong thing. I snack on fruit or some bagle chips with hummus. I use my nutrition tracker on a semi regular basis just to make sure I am still staying within my set limits which are currently between 1100-1300 calories. Lastly, I have most recently begun a fitness program with Sparks fitness page. I was happy loosing mega weight fast just by eating right, but I know its not going to last forever. So it feels right that it is the time to start working some cardio and strength training into my daily curriculum. I do have a busy schedual so it is becomming more and more evident that I have to have a pretty strict schedual to make all of the piec

Other Information:
I am eternally happy to have been introduced to Sparkspeople.com. It has truely been the only method that I have seen any results with! It has made me believe that I can do this. For the first time in my life I believe that I can be healthy and beautiful. This is all about me and I am proud to share my journey with anyone who wishes to tag along in support and friendship. Lets make our world a smaller place.

Yeah, I'm actually doing really well! I haven't had the chance to get all the way through The Spark yet, with work and everything. But so far I'm down 15 lbs, and have lost 12 inches all over - I've been working out a lot, so my muscles are really strengthening up! According to the site, I'm pretty much right on track with everything (weight, intake, exercise, measurements) and I'll tell you, I feel great! I think if I let up on the gym a little bit, I'd probably lose weight faster, cause I wouldn't be building so much muscle, but I just love the feeling so I go almost every day! But it's melting away fat :) so I'm sticking with it!

Yeah, I signed up with a gym 2 days ago. It's called planet fitness and they were running a special for a really good membership rate, and I had reeeaaally been wanting to sign up at a gym. It's in the same plaza as my job, so it works out real well. As far as eating goes, I'm still working on regulating that. I do a decent job of eating the right things, but not always at the right times, cause of my weird work schedule. But I'm leveling it out :) I'm trying to go almost every day, at least for some cardio. Now that I've quit smoking, it's soooo much easier!

Congrats on not gaining!!

Dark chocolate is a motivator -- but probably in the wrong direction LOL. Hubby thinks "Mini Pretzels & Cheese Sauce" (ha ha).. I went over my carbs today and 13 under on my Protein. We still have plenty of goodies left over from our stockings and it's difficult to stay away from it all emoticon . I did about 49 minutes of Wii Fit Plus and burned 286 (4 over - YEA!).

The great news is that after all that snacking and stuff (and not tracking - bad me, I know).. I lost 1.1 lbs!! I'm down to 255.5!! I'm so happy!!
