Erin, I have the utmost respect for you and others, who deal with deafness on a daily basis. I was told once that I should learn to sign...but in my case I still am employed full time and have hearing aids, and my tenants are hearing, so it wouldn't help. I did have on try to sign to me at work once, since she knew I was hearing impaired. My loss was due to Mineres disease, that I developed at age 21. I lost hearing on the right side, and after a round on the left side from 1996-2001, I have only about 40% on the left. But, I can function at work, with the hearing aid and am blessed!
I want to welcome you to the Conservative Christian Women team! I have worked with deaf students and do a little signing and have taught Sunday School classes songs with signs. I usually have the students sing and sign the song and then just sign it so the hearing get an idea of what the deaf hear. We sing occopella so there is not a CD or piano playing either. 1066 days ago
