My name is Emily and I am 33 years old. I have been overweight for most of my life but over the last ten years, I have struggled to lose the 140 extra pounds I gained after college. I realize that this is an addiction for me and I need to be accountable to others in order to achieve my weight loss. I have high blood pressure, have fibromyalgia, IBS, and am pre-diabetic which scares me because I am still young. In addition to my health problems, I struggle with depression and anxiety so I tend to cope with these feelings and stressors with food. It holds me back in so many ways, even affecting my marriage. I have not been able to even think about getting pregnant because of the risks and this saddens me because this weight could be preventing me from achieving the biggest dream of my life, becoming a mother. I really need the emotional support of others and I hope SparkPeople can help me achieve my goals and have the life I've dreamed of. I know I can do it. I have to.... today's the day. The decision to commit to a healthier lifestyle is the first step for me in this journey. I am excited and anxious to begin this challenge...Let the journey begin!!

My Goals:
To stop drinking soda and juices.

To walk 30 minutes everyday minimum.

To walk 10000 steps a day.

To track my nutrition & exercise daily.

To lose 10% of my weight by June 30.

To lose 145 pounds by September 9, 2011....my 35th b-day!

To become a mother.

My Program:
Tracking my diet, exercise, and water consumption.

Walking everyday.

Eating approx. 1500 calories.

Logging into sparkpeople daily to track, participate in teams/message boards, blog, and read info about health.





Personal Information:
I was born in Boston and raised in Southeastern Massachusetts. I came to the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts in 1996 to attend UMASS and have never left the area-- I like the pace of western Mass. so much better and think it is a beautiful area! I am married and work for a local non-profit agency.

Other Information:
My major reason to do this is for my health. I'm too young to be so sick and tired! It is slowly killing me and I want to live a long healthy life. My weight has held me back for too long! I have been unable to have children because of my weight! I don't want it to hold me back any longer from achieving my dreams!

You're proud of me??? I'm proud of youuu!!! Of course we can walk together!!! How exciting. I couldn't go for my walk this morning because I had an appointment to go to... which sucks cuz I was really looking forward to it. Tomorrow and Friday I have to be elsewhere, so I wont even be at work. So you won't see me until Monday. Over the weekend I'll be working 8-5 both Saturday and Sunday. I will be at work Monday though. Want to start then???

Thanks for adding me as a friend - I just added you also! I know just what you mean about lap band not being a quick fix. I too have come to realize that we only get out of it what we put into it - the band will sit by idle and watch us gain weight if we don't choose to watch what/how much we eat and make sure we stay active. Not probably what we were expecting, even though "the" all warned us up front!

But, we CAN do this! And SP is a great way tool to use together with the band. I like to call it my one-two punch! So, we're in this together...let's go all the way with it!
