My weight has been a life-long issue. I came into the world close to 10 lbs, and have never really been "thin". Many years ago I learned that exercise would help me tremendously, but it's easy to fall off the "wagon". I had surgery for 2 different types of cancer 24 months ago and came out of that with a new commitment to life. It's been a rocky road, but now is the time to make the changes to keep me healthy!

Now that I'm following the Spark lifestyle, I feel so much better and feel like my life has taken a turn for the better. The most important thing is that I feel in control of what's happening to me.

My Goals:
When I discovered SparkPeople (thanks Birdie!) I knew it was time to lose, so I set my first year's goal at 50 pounds. After just a few weeks I can see that this is realistic and my lifestyle really has changed.


My Program:
I'm doing strength training 3 days a week and love the exercises generated for me. On those days I'm doing at least 30 minutes of cardio as a warm-up. Then on the other 3 days I do 45-60 minutes of cardio. Sunday is a day of rest and reflection!



Personal Information:
After 35 years of teaching my husband and I retired to the beautiful mountains of western NC. When people ask where I live I tell them, "Head towards Heaven and just before you get to the pearly gates, turn right and there we are!"


Other Information:
I love to read and watch movies. My newest hobby is quilting. It's been fun to learn such a cool skill at my age!

    Thank you for your encouraging words on my post! I have found the Thyroid Community team is very helpful and knowledgeable. I wound never have thought that the neck and nerve problem would be thyroid related but the endo was not surprised.

    I go back in six weeks and will see what she says then.

    Wow, that's great news! So many of us have low thyroid due to Hashi's that a non-Hashi's diagnosis is rare. I am wondering if a course of iodine won't be enough to boost your thyroid's production of hormone, if the cause of it being slow was simply that you were not getting adequate amounts in you diet, coupled with an infection (causing the inflammation). Well I guess time will tell!

    Thx for the update, that's cool about the Achilles tendon treatment. Too bad we can't clone your doctor! Ha
