NOW is the Time!

My weight has been a life-long issue. I came into the world close to 10 lbs, and have never really been "thin". Many years ago I learned that exercise would help me tremendously, but it's easy to fall off the "wagon". I had surgery for 2 different types of cancer 24 months ago and came out of that with a new commitment to life. It's been a rocky road, but now is the time to make the changes to keep me healthy!

Now that I'm following the Spark lifestyle, I feel so much better and feel like my life has taken a turn for the better. The most important thing is that I feel in control of what's happening to me.

My Goals:
When I discovered SparkPeople (thanks Birdie!) I knew it was time to lose, so I set my first year's goal at 50 pounds. After just a few weeks I can see that this is realistic and my lifestyle really has changed.

My Program:
I'm doing strength training 3 days a week and love the exercises generated for me. On those days I'm doing at least 30 minutes of cardio as a warm-up. Then on the other 3 days I do 45-60 minutes of cardio. Sunday is a day of rest and reflection!

Personal Information:
After 35 years of teaching my husband and I retired to the beautiful mountains of western NC. When people ask where I live I tell them, "Head towards Heaven and just before you get to the pearly gates, turn right and there we are!"

Other Information:
I love to read and watch movies. My newest hobby is quilting. It's been fun to learn such a cool skill at my age!

I had 2 labs once. We got Duster first (golden). She was amazing. After we had her for about a year, we got Jessie (black). Jessie drove her Dusty. I still remember when Jessie was little - she would run into the living room and dive into the magazine section of the coffee table and lay there. It wasn't long before only her head would fit! Jessie never stopped being a puppy. Here comes 50 pounds running at you to jump on your lap. I think if we hadn't already had Dusty, Jessie would have matured a little. But oh, how I loved those dogs.

Glad to hear you weren't hitting the heavy stuff. At our age, we have to be careful. emoticon emoticon

Thank you for the spark goodie. But you are the one that is shining. I believe you are so right to give the credit to you doing those SP workouts. It's YOU thinking to do them and YOU actually doing them. So for that, YOU deserve the credit because YOU are doing all the work here! I'm not surprised that the doctor is amazed. YOU are amazing! It tickles me to hear that. Makes me just smile that you can think ahead of the doctor and get results before he even gets started. Please keep me posted on your recovery. emoticon

I remember about your fall, just couldn't remember how long ago it was. It was just a freaky way to fall and do just a horrible injury. I'm so sorry that the recovery is taking so long for you. It must be hard to hear the doc say it would be several months before you get full motion again. Who knows. You know your body. You might be able to get that back sooner if you take it slow and work it easy. My sister also experienced a really bad fall that affected her elbow and shoulder. Her teeth got banged up really bad. She's been in physical therapy and has had 3 different kinds of dentists working on her teeth. That fall was back in October and she's nowhere near full recovery yet. It's been tough for her but she keeps at it. I know you're persistent and tough, too. My thoughts are with you. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
