Goal: Forties, Fit and Fabulous

I am a woman following Jesus, a wife to a fabulous husband, and a mom to a daughter and a son. Defined by my relationships? Yup, humans are interdependent and I'm blessed to have these relationships.

I recently had a 3 am trip to the local ER due to severe abdominal pain. Turns out I had an ulcer. This unpleasant episode was the wake up call I needed to take my physical health much more seriously. With SparkPeople, I now have the right tools to realize my goals!

My Goals:
Worship the Lord my God with all of my heart, soul, mind and strength. (Matt. 22:30)

Eat well

Exercise regularly

Be fit and healthy

My Program:
Drink 8 glasses of water/day.

Cardio exercise 3x/week.

Strength exercise 3x/week.

Eat clean.

Personal Information:
I never had excess weight - besides post pregnancy weight - until two years ago. It slowly crept on due to high calorie treats, too large of meal portions and a sedentary lifestyle. I had the goal to be Forty, Fit and Fabulous (my DH suggested "Forty, Fit and Frisky... =) when I was 39, but didn't do much about it. Well, I'm still in my forties (turned 43 on Oct. 5th) and am now going for the goal and the gold!! I am the tortoise who is going to win the race and then keep on walking the healthy lifestyle road to enjoy the benefits of my work.

Of course, you may! Welcome!
I'm not very active on the group these days - I'm struggling with a lot of side effects I've never experienced from chemo before. In addition to the usual fatigue and nausea I'm coping with mouth sores and all my food has a strong metallic taste to it that makes me not want to eat much. I've also been struggling with infections (so far I've had a staph infection and a cold/sore throat/virus thing going on with fever).
But welcome just the same. I see you know Sherrey so hang with her until I can get back on board. I'll be going through chemo until probably the end of the year.
Welcome and take care.

Hi Ellen! I appreciated your comment on my status regarding my brace, and I did hit my husband just a night or two ago with the brace during the night. Shocking moment for both of us! It feels good to be able to be without during certain periods of the day and I'm almost there, I do believe! Wouldn't be so without the prayers and support of friends like you. Thanks so much.

I also enjoyed reading about your Port Townsend connection. We're hoping to go up for a few days this summer. It's one of our favorite haunts along the Sound.

Hugs,
Sherrey

Hi, Ellen! Your comment on my page was lovely -- and thanks for asking about the hand/wrist/thumb combo. Everything is moving along toward the ultimate goal, according to my PT. She is still assigning new exercises now and then, and the ones added Thurs. hurt some but that's because we're working on muscles not used in almost 9 weeks. I'm still limited a good bit by what I can pick up, do, etc. but I'm getting closer! It doesn't hurt much at all except for strange exercises . . . and that's understandable. Despite my impatience with the process, I'm glad to be free of the pain I was enduring before surgery. God is good in sending us good doctors to take care of our ills.

Have a fantastic Mother's Day!

Sherrey

I've *never* been a runner either!! I just decided one day to give it a shot and voila. The luxury of having an ice cream stand 1 mile from us is that we can walk there and back :)
