My name is El. I was diagnosed in June 2012 with Stage 4 breast cancer. I've come through chemo and radiation and am doing extremely well. I did not have to have surgery. I am now on hormone therapy (Femara) and feel great most days. I'm not totally cancer free yet, but my Dr. says I'm 80 to 90% improved. I have strong faith and believe that I shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. I have wanted and needed to lose weight and get in shape for many years but just could not get and stay motivated. I lost about 85 lbs. before and after I was diagnosed with cancer. I had cut back on my eating some and was doing a lot of walking. I felt fine in the beginning and attributed my weight loss to these changes, even though the loss happened rather quickly. I gradually started to feel bad and have trouble breathing and realized I needed to see a Dr. I was still surprised, however, when I received a diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer but, knew I had to rely on God more than ever. He has been faithful and I thank him every single day. Even going through the treatments was not as horrific as some people had warned me it would be. This illness has truly been a blessing in disguise, in that it has made me reevaluate my life and lifestyle. I have a greater appreciation for this gift of life and am committed to regaining my health and staying alive, healthy and fit. Once I finished chemo, I regained about 45lbs. of the weight I had lost back. I had trouble with my appetite during treatment so I was not prepared for the rapid weight gain once I was able to eat again. I needed to gain a few lbs., but not so many and not so fast. I've made big changes in my eating habits and exercise 4 to 5 days a week. Progress has been slower than I would like and sometimes I get, discouraged but am determined to win this battle. I joined Sparkpeople to help me reach my goals. I realize that it may not be easy and try to remember that my body is still recovering from a major trauma, but if I believe and stay the course I will succeed. I intend to fight and keep on fighting. I can always find inspiration to keep me going on Sparkpeople.
