I am a 33 year old Masters student--starting a new career in teaching, and making several other life changes. I have been married for 14 years, and am very happy in my relationship, but not with myself. I still feel like the fat girl in the room, although when I was 237 lbs and size 20 I did not feel that big. Now that I am 159 lbs, and a size 4-6, I feel unsightly. This is all in an effort to change that fact!
My goal is to feel happy in my own skin. The weight loss and activity is an important part of that, but this is also very much about changing my lifestyle and self image.
I started with a doctor recommended NO carb diet from Aug 21, 2010 to March 21, 2011. In that time I went from 237 to 169 lbs. Since April I have been integrating carbs slowly, and focusing on a low calorie, low fat, high exercise routine. I have hit a point where I think muscle mass is making actual "weight" loss difficult. My size is going down, I think, at least trimming up, but the scale needle stays the same, or goes down VERY slowly. I am hoping that this Sparkpeople experience will help me stay motivated.
I have lived most of my life in the Seattle area, although I did live in Southern California for a short time.
We do not have any children, but our house is still full. We have 9 birds, 4 cats, 3 lizards, 1 frog, 1 dog, and 6 large fish tanks. It is a crazy but fun house! I am fluent in Japanese, and make semi-frequent trips there to visit my in-laws.
