The lab results weren't good. They hadn't been for years and they were on the rise. The protein diet didn't help (besides it was boring). So I tried SP and it has helped me reach my goal on August 11, 2008 but was unable to maintain it with my maintenance program. I think my problem was that I treated SP like a diet and not a true lifestyle change. When I stopped doing all that I was doing to loose the weight, I gained back almost 15 pounds. Now I need to refocus to get that weight off and figure out what I need to do to keep it off.

The lab results were back in line before I reached my goal weight. I need to confirm that they still are. Now that I am on this healthy lifestyle journey, I want to keep my weight in control with a monthly average weight of 178 lbs or less for the rest of my life and keep those lab numbers good for as long as I can without the use of medication. My SP goal is set for 174.5 because of the varation I see in my weight. I won't be at an average of 178 until such time I have reached 175. Goal weight set based on keeping my BMI less than or equal to 24.9.

Long Term Goals:

1) Get back to goal weight of 174.5 by December 25, 2008 and maintain a monthly average of 178 or less for the rest of my days.

2) Keep my weight in statistical control.

3) Maintain cholesterol below 200.
Sept. 2006 - 230
Feb. 2007 - 180

4) Reduce body fat to get to a 33" waist size by December 25, 2008.

Short Term Goal
1) 185 lbs by March 31st.

My Program:
Exercise at least 5 hours per week, 10 if I need to shed some pounds.
Eat 10 fruits and vegetables each day and drink at least 8 glasses of water per day.

Reward for reaching my original goal of 185 lbs: Grand Canyon mule ride to Colorado river (Have to be under 200 pounds clothed to qualify) - I have a reservation for May 8, 2008.

Reward myself with a bubble bath each day I finish all my goals for that day.

Reward myself with a 5 week winter trip to Alaska (to see the northern lights) if I keep my my long term goals for an entire year.

I married my best friend in 1993.
I have 2 grown sons born in 1984 and 1987.
I am a Project Engineering for Cabot Corporation building chemical plants all over the world or modifying existing plants if there is no major construction going on.

    Hi John, I just read one of your post on the maintenance thread. You talked about not charting things down because it's not something you see yourself doing for the rest of your life. I understand what you are saying and it's one of the reasons that I choose not to chart things down. Having said that, every once in a while...specially if the trend is that I am gaining weight...I find it helpful to chart for one day. Just to make sure my portion sizes are good, and that my estimates of calorie intake is accurate. Now as far as not exercising...get your butt out there. We have a 5% challenge on the go. hehehe thanks for all that you do for me. I appreciate it. gail
