For Myself

I need to take care of myself for myself, but I know that it impacts my three daughters.
I've worked in professional kitchens since the early 1970's. Food is a major part of my life. Being a woman in a male dominated field was a struggle back when I started. Being an older woman in a physically demanding industry is a struggle too. I enjoy the struggle. I enjoy the long hours, the heat, the noise. The food.
In my early 50's my metabolism started to slow down. Whoops.

Other Information:
The year that I turned 50 I went on my first hike. My husband is a big hiker, and I wanted something else to share with him. Since then I've been hiking to celebrate all our 'milestones' - birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. Living in up state NY, we do a lot of Adirondack hikes, but we also hike in the Shawangunks and the White Mountains of NH.

Hi Nancy - thanks for stopping by my page. Yeah, I find winter to be a challenge (even with this one being a mild one). But I do see light at the end of the tunnel. I've managed to get mostly caught up at work and for the most part work schedule and the weather have cooperated to get some mid-day walks in. I am determined to go to the park for a run tomorrow. I signed up for a 5K on the first day of spring, so that should also keep me motivated.

Sorry to hear your fit-bit died. I'm on my third also. Let me know when you're back. Also, it looks like your settings don't show your step count to friends. Not sure if that was intentional?

Enjoy your volunteer time (we have a few nursing homes in our FD primary response area, and while we don't do medical we're still responding fairly frequently for activated alarms and the like). I know they will appreciate your being there.

Enjoy your weekend and keep up the great work - your consistency helps encourage me when I'm getting off track. emoticon

I'm not 100% sure it is a dark sky park, but they do have host "star parties" up there so I'm betting it is. I have yet to have been to one up there but about 10 miles down the road the host parties from a recreational area. They are so much fun
If you ever get the chance to head this way, we have Zion, Cedar Breaks, and Bryce Canyon all about an hour in different directions

Nooo. No weight for bootstraps. I have a knee issue w/ one of my knees so I have to be very careful. We'll eventually work up to that hopefully, but not yet. Just trying to get the move down right now as it's very challenging for me and I can't get down very low.
