Pookie's Corner - there is health beyond the scale - a # doesn't define my success!

Hi My name is Emmy and I have battled with my weight since I was about 11 years old; so in 2005 things change for me as I was diagnosed with borderline diabetes. Borderline you either have it or you don’t. I knew then things had to change because we had six generations of adult onset diabetes and I didn’t want to go through the battles my mom has had to do plus I hate needles. But I still went back and forth with the yo-yoing diets. In 2006 I got married to my soulmate.

But I still went back and forth with the yo-yoing diets. In 2006 I got married to my soulmate.

Finally got serious in 2010 and loosen up and started letting my guard down and let people in that year I about 35# I put on since I started my journey in 2005 but hit a plateau which took me to the root cause which I kept hidden called Binge Eating. I realized then if I wanted to really make everlasting changes I needed help!! I went to my first Binge Eating Disorder Therapy on July 1, 2011 and have been going since then.

I finally let the closet door swing wide open let all my skeletons and secrets out and man did I starting liking myself a lot more. I actually started working on my self esteem and did things for myself without feeling selfish. I have learned so much more about myself especially on how strong, brave, intelligent and beautiful I am. I am still working on it but have maintained the 35# for a while now. I had gallbladder surgery on June 29, 2012; due to my eating disorder finally caught up to me.

My last year’s accomplishments as I have begun to feel stronger has been my Woggling (walk/run) I have completed over 10 races 5K, 10K, & Half Marathon. If you would have told me 4 years ago I would be woggling i would have laughed in your face - yeah right. From the time i walked my first half - and felt that pride and accomplishment. I have improved my times and this fluffy girl can get out there and walk run a half, 10k or 5k and my competition is myself mentally and physically.

Health at everysize; don't give up on living life because you are waiting to get skinny live life and enjoy the ride along the way and watch what happens!! Loving yourself no matter what the scale says is the most important thing you can do for yourself!! Be patient, compassionate and kind to yourself-remember the weight didn't happen overnight so it won't come off overnight either! Never give up and continue to learn never stop!
