August 2014: Celebrating 2 years post kidney transplant
Shared Food & Fitness Trackers
Four years ago, I joined Sparkpeople with the idea that getting fit would make me healthier. Well, it took more than that. In 2011 I learned I was in end-stage kidney failure. Through a wonderful friend and donor, I had a kidney transplant on August 7, 2012. I also picked up a superbug (pseudomonas) while at the hospital, so through the remainder of 2012 and for most of 2013 I was in and out of the hospital with infections and high fevers. When the doctors were finally able to get that under control, I still felt weak and confused. My mind was cloudy, and my short-term memory was just...gone.
It looked as though I was going to have to retire early, because I was struggling to do my job. A conversation with my nephrologist identified the medication as the likely culprit. Four days after changing my meds, my mind cleared, and my memory, energy and stamina came back.
In the spring of 2016, I became ill with three UTI's, and developed a severe pneumonia that turned out to be related ro a *different* anti-rejection drug. It took 4 admissions to 2 different hospitals over 26 days to control everything and regain my health. I am still recovering strength and stamina, but feeling better every day. When you are getting a kidney transplant, you are desperate for the kidney. All the issues you can have after the transplant tend to fade into the background. That said, though, it is absolutely wonderful to wake up every morning to a new day!
I am married, and have a cat and two shelties to keep me on my toes, when I'm not working with kids as a children's librarian. I love puzzles of all kinds, many crafts, reading, dancing, and swimming. I also love to garden, and I'm passionate about growing heirloom vegetables, which look so different and taste so good!
I am also off the huge number of dietary restrictions I had at the time I was in kidney failure. I tend not to overeat any more, though I still have an awful sweet tooth. So hopefully Sparkpeople will help me get back on track, and stay there!
* Lose weight
* Keep cholesterol down by diet and not medication
* Reduce need for blood pressure medication
* Improve kidney function
* Improve stamina
* Enjoy doing it!

Good Sunday friend. Sounds like you will be having a fun day with friends today, good for you and Hope !!!
Just wanted to give you a little suggestion that I found handy since you mentioned this problem in your PLOF post this morning.
If there are a lot of comments to read I usually take notes on paper so I don't forget who said what or what I want to comment to whom OR I open another window to I can look back and forth, that sometimes seems easiest.
I also wanted to say how nice it is to have you on our team and I am so enjoying getting to know you as well. You are doing a good job with all the things you have to juggle in your life right now, so hang in there hon. Please know that you and Hope are always in my prayers.
