Just another girl...

...who loves life, but doesn't feel great enough to enjoy it as fully as it should be enjoyed.

07/10/2009 UPDATE: So...here I am again, two years later, after seeing a photo our daughter snapped of me (left, green shirt). The photo shocked me into action. I had thought I could lose weight by just piddling around with it - eating fairly healthy, doing an exercise occasionally. I need to be more aggressive with this goal, so here I am, this time for good. Watch and see!

(The following was written when I first started, 2007, but will keep this up as it's still my story.)

I have such a blessed life - a great husband and four cute little things who call me Mama (ages 4-12). But my life has one unhappy part to it: I just don't feel well most days. My back hurts, my knees pop.... you might be familiar with all this. And I'm only in my mid-30s. Aren't these supposed to be some of my most energetic years?

I gained weight during pregnancies. For some reason, it just does not fall of of me like for some. That's okay; I can feel pretty even with extra weight (most of the time, anyway).

But I just don't feel healthy. And that's where SparkPeople has blessed me this year. I am so glad to find a place to get healthy, which will happily also include losing some extra weight.

My #1 obstacle is myself. Isn't it always? I need to put myself highest on the priority list, changing my thought process to realize that I can BETTER care for my husband and children by taking care of myself first.

My Goals:
Long Term: 177 lbs. by New Year's Eve (my birthday) 2009.

Short Term: Enter everything into the Nutrition tracker for the rest of July 2009. Use SparkPeople daily.



My Program:
Only one non-water beverage per day. My choice is a very big cup of coffee with creamer.

Strength training 3x week for 20 minutes.

Cardio daily M-Saturday for 30 minutes. It helps me when my system is flexible, so I choose the cardio based on how I feel: walking, kayaking, or the exercise bike.

Personal Information:
I'm 5' 7.5" . We live on the US Gulf Coast. We homeschool our four children, ages 6-14. I'm doing this - getting healthy - for me, first of all, and I know my husband will appreciate the benefits :) , but I'm also doing this for our children.

I want them to remember a mama who could do physical activity with them: bike riding, kayaking, swimming, hiking, etc. What great memories they would have! Right now, they still have a fun mama, but one that does crafts and games with them, indoors and seated at a table. These are great memories, too, but I want the children to remember doing outdoor activities with me, also.

As a word of encouragment to you - focus on moving from where you are now! Even though I started losing weight at 300 pounds, I often think about how much harder it would have been if I hadn't started then. What if I had waited until I was 350 or 400?

You can do this - one day at a time! Let me know if I can help!

Hey there!! Oh yes i was in 210 - ville a while ago, although i spent about 2 months trying to leave 190-ville, that has been the hardest battle so far, I'm just about hanging onto the 180's by my fingertips!!! It has been a slow journey for me getting here, but with on and off effort - every day can't be all hard work right?? - I'm beginning to feel normal again now though!!
Anyway, I'm glad you're back using spark again and I hope it gives you the motivation you need, to make the changes you want in your life!! By the way, i think that's a great photo of you - but i guess you know better just how great you really can look!! Good luck with reaching a place where you can be a fun outdoor mama!!
