"What has your body done for you lately? A whole lot, actually! Focusing on function, not form, can encourage healthy habits.
Loving your body and treating it well — with nutritious food, regular exercise and enough sleep — go hand in hand. Understanding your thoughts and feelings about your body can be useful, especially since that mirror, mirror on the wall can be the most fickle of them all. The media messages we take in, from Facebook to advertising, as well as other people’s opinions, can strongly sway how we view our bodies. Create a wellspring of inside-out body love by taking a trip outside the appearance paradigm. Instead of focusing on what your body looks like, focus on what it does for you. Perhaps it allows you to run around with your kids or grandkids, walk up stairs, or sit on your porch and wave to neighbors. Maybe it supports you while walking, playing tennis or climbing mountains. Consider your senses: Does your body let you see sunsets, listen to music and laughter, and smell fir trees? Your body, whatever its shape, size or condition, allows you to live your life. Make a list of all the things your body does in a day, and be especially sure to include those little things you used to take for granted. Then spend time appreciating it — you’ll be even more motivated to eat well, move regularly and keep up the other habits that contribute to a strong and healthy you!"
