I am a 49 y.o. single mom of 2 (13 y.o. girl, 12 y.o. boy). I have a full-time job which I am very thankful for, although between kids and work, I am often much too busy! My passions include yoga, nature, music, science fiction and fantasy (especially Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who), and reading piles and piles of good books. I am into simple & frugal living both by choice and necessity. I have had weight issues most of my life and weighed 259# at my highest. ...
I am a 49 y.o. single mom of 2 (13 y.o. girl, 12 y.o. boy). I have a full-time job which I am very thankful for, although between kids and work, I am often much too busy! My passions include yoga, nature, music, science fiction and fantasy (especially Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who), and reading piles and piles of good books. I am into simple & frugal living both by choice and necessity. I have had weight issues most of my life and weighed 259# at my highest. Then I discovered Yoga and made very good use of a monthly membership, taking 5-6 classes a week and following a mostly vegan, mostly macrobiotic style of eating without counting calories---got down to 189# with very little effort. Unfortunately, life threw a few curve balls and I was no longer able to afford Yoga classes and work/school schedules as well as financial limitations made healthy living much more challenging. I regained about 45 of the 70 pounds that I had lost. Discovering Sparkpeople has made a huge difference in my life. I have learned to set and track goals, am learning so much about healthy eating and many ways to exercise that are less costly. I was able to get some discount Yoga passes at a great studio so that I can attend a class 1x/week and I am also developing a very satisfying home practice. I have been learning how to incorporate exercise into my daily life in smaller pieces on busy days--adding in 10-15 minute chunks whenever possible by walking, doing short yoga sessions, doing 10-minute exercise apps on my Kindle, trying out some of the free exercise videos on Spark and using various exercise DVD's available free from the public library. One of the things that has helped me the most is to always track everything I eat--no matter what--without judgment, criticism or harsh feelings. This lets me see what my areas of weakness are and learn how to make the best possible choices. I would love to meet new friends on Sparkpeople! Best wishes to all!
