My Journey to a Healthier Me

I'm a mother of four and a grandmother of five (soon to be six!). When I was a teenager, I told my mom I was never going to let myself get fat. Now I weigh more than I ever thought I would and it's past time to make some major lifestyle changes! I began this journey on May 16, 2012. I don't want this to be a temporary thing just to lose weight. I want to make changes so that it will be permanent!

My Program:
When I started, I said I wouldn't do anything that I couldn't keep doing forever. I started by making small changes and eating healthier. Currently I eat approximately 1300 to 1400 calories per day. Along with my main dish I always have a fruit at breakfast, at least one fruit and one veggie at lunch, a fruit or veggie for a snack, and a fruit and a vegetable at dinner. I have found that the more fruits and vegetables I eat, the less I crave sugar. Crunchy foods such as apples or celery help me to stay away from chips as well. I only exercise for 30 minutes a day/4 or 5 days a week, but I mix it up with a variety of workouts: power walking, dancing, step aerobics, etc. This has worked to help me lose 37 lbs so far, and I look forward to losing the other 35 lbs to reach my goal.

Hi there Doven - I wonder if you'd be willing to put what you're doing to lose weight on your page? e.g. how often do you exercise, for how long each session and what is working for you in terms of food choices?
