Weigh Down, Down Under

I'm a mother of six, ages 4-17. After home schooling for years, we recently made big life changes. Moving to Western Australia, halving our house size, kids returning to school after 8 years out, and numerous other things changing, has caused huge upheaval to us. In spite of all the change, we are adjusting really well and finally getting life in order.

Life tends to get sort of complicated and stressy with all this family life going on. It's easy to get too much of everything -- good, bad, and ugly. I'd say my life has been stressful, especially over the past six years, which have been difficult to adjust to in nearly every way. I've struggled with having a bunch of little kids all in a row; with moving away from my family (all the way to the other side of the world); with my thyroid and vitamin D and female issues and anxiety and depression; with homeschooling in a different culture and environment; with isolation and loneliness; with time constraints and the loss of doing things I love because of, well, all of the above. And then the huge move back to Australia. It's been good, but it's also been really, really hard.

I'm hoping to spend this next year helping my oldest kids navigate their entrance to adulthood, get myself back to studying, help the younger set to blossom in their primary school years, and get myself healthy.

I'm currently doing Doula training, and hope to be fully certified by the end of the year. I am trying to get into university next year to do nursing/midwifery. It will be a challenge, but I have to do it now if ever. I already work with women in crisis, and I'd love to have more skills to better serve them. I hope that reaching my goal weight will help the ones that I am example to.

Apart from that: I am doing just the basics: lower carbs, restricted sugar, protein plus, and exercise at least 15 minutes a day.

I am a middle-aged Christian mom of six with a lot of dreams yet to be fulfilled. I love supporting women as they journey into making their families, and I am working very hard to gain as much wisdom and qualification as I can to help.

Welcome to Sparkies Down Under..

On the Start Page you will find all the information on how to set up your Spark page.
We recommend you do this, as it is the basis of this very special journey with us to health and fitness.

Our Team Leaders have all made this Journey and have learned so much, we are still learning as we go on.

We are vibrant team who love our healthy Eating and doing lots of Exercise .
We have lots of interesting and helpful Challenges going on, and the reasons for these are 3 fold .

1) We need to count our Calories!!!. It is only by counting and keeping within our calorie range that Sparkpeople set for us, that we will lose weight and feel so much better.

2) We need to drink Water!!!. We need to drink at the very least 8 full glasses a day, this will prevent dehydration, and also help to stop us feeling hungry ..
Our brains and other organs in out bodies need water or they will shrival up and cause so many medical problems .

3) We need to Exercise!!!. We need to keep our bodies mobile and fit.
Without exercising our bodies, muscles will die and we will suffer arthritis and other ailments.

We have fun Challenges too, to tax your brain and keep it active ..
Above all, Our mission is lead a Healthy and Fit life, free from Pain and Illness.

Thank you for spending the time to read my blog - I think having just put that blog together - the first time I have actually put the developing story together like that and now the penny has dropped - and I am beginning to realise what I have done!! So - I'm just a bit slow in the uptake!! LOL!!
However it has proved one thing to me that if I can do it anyone can do it and you will find that the results are way beyond your wildest dreams!!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon to Sparkpeople! This is the place to be as everyone is very helpful here! Take your time getting to know the site and try not to be too overwhelmed at first! I love the stats that come with this site and the "Reports" under the Trackers menu toolbar was especially helpful to me when I first was on SP as it help me see the breakdown of my food intake ~where I wasneeding help & having trouble~not enough protein, too many carbs! Remember ~ emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon ~~Betsy
