I would really like to start some exercise, but I just don't know where to start. I have RA, OA, AS, and nerve damage, and really need a pool to exercise in. The closest pool to me is 1 hour away and very expensive to use. I do some stretches, but that is as far as I have got. I have a Cardio Glide, but when I use it, my leg and knees really start to hurt. I only to 1 min at a time, and thought that would work, but so far, it hasn't. Hi Doris, I have Lupus which eats away the cartilage between my joints leaving me with bone on bone in some of my joints. Other joints take turns at getting swelled or in pain. I found that I would hurt myself every time I'd try to get started with exercise so I would get nowhere and even go backwards and gain more weight. When I first joined Spark People I wasn't able to do anything. Then someone suggested seated exercises. There are some great SEATED videos that I started out doing. At 1st I would try different ones for 1-2 minutes a day. I then varied them and increased to 3-4 min then 6-8 minutes. The more days I did ANYTHING the better I started to feel. I then added a standing video that I did modified. The Bollywood video. These are all on Spark People. Once I started moving around and stretching in my chair in front of the computer I started limbering up enough to start slowly walking around a bit. Then I increased that a minute at a time. I am now walking 30 minutes about3-4 days a week with prayer. I don't do anything without asking God to help me not do anything that is going to hurt me. So far so good.
