Tough Talk

My name is Dori and I turned my eating upside down to lose weight - I consume larger breakfasts and lunches and eat light dinners. It works for me! And, that's how I continue to eat six years later!

As of Jan. 2014, I've maintained my weight for six years. I work hard to make eating like this a lifetime habit - it isn't always easy, but I never give up.

As of Jan. 2014, I've maintained my weight for six years. I work hard to make eating like this a lifetime habit - it isn't always easy, but I never give up.

A little about me: I lost 40-pous pounds from June 07 to Feb. 08. At just 5'3" tall, I went from 161 pounds to 117 and I feel like a new person! I did it by making healthy eating choices and changes, and because I didn't spend any money on clubs or weight programs, I had more to spend on clothes as I went down.

I believe the key point to motivating yourself to lose weight is to get your mind and your heart on the same page. If you are overweight, especially very overweight (like I was for four years) or obese, the desire of your heart is to take off those excess pounds forever. Your heart never forgets this. But your mind - it dwells on the next meal or sees the vending machine, and it forgets and all your good intentions get lost as the fork heads to the mouth. But when your mind focuses on your heart, it remembers your desire to be the healthy person you intend to become. It remembers you're establishing eating habits you can live with forever. It recalls with clarity your determination to reach your goals and stops chanting "I'll start tomrrow, I'll start tomorrow." With your mind and heart in rhythm you begin to lose weight, and once you see those numbers start downward, it inspires you to keep on going.

I'm not saying it's easy. It took me several months to align my mind with my heart, but when I did, I met my goal of losing one pound a week without fail. I strongly oppose anything that says "lose weight fast" or "take off 9 pounds in 11 days" or "lose 8 pounds this week." How many people do you know who lost weight that fast and kept it off for any length of time? I'm betting about as many as I do - a big, fat zero. In losing weight slowly, your body adjusts to your new eating habits and responds to the changes in your lifestyle, and when you see regular progress, you're more motivated to succeed.

I met my weight goal on Christmas morning 2007. I've noticed to maintain my 117 pounds, I don't eat much different than when I was losing. I now enjoy every single bite of food I take and love not being stuffed after meals. It's great to be in those size four and two jeans and skirts! Now, to keep on wearing them ...

You look great! I love the sweater. I never knit myself clothes because they never fit right. Maybe I'll try this one. I've knit a lot this winter, so I'm feeling a little bolder. emoticon

HI! Hope you don't mind that I added you as a friend. Enjoyed your page. My weightloss goal is also 50lbs. I'm 15 lbs away. Maintenance is a little intimidating for me. Hope you'll add me too. You are very inspiring!
