I'm on my way....

I've been trying to lose weight for at least 20 years, and realize if I don't do it now, I never will. And, nobody can do it but me.

So on June 1, 2010 I started on a low glycemic food plan that is working. And I don't feel deprived.

My Goals:
I have only one goal, to lose 100+ lbs and feel great! How did I ever get like this????

My Program:
Journal all my food and liquids every day.
Exercise 3 x a week doing interval training and circuit training. Walk as much as my back will permit (just bought trekking poles to aid my back!)

Personal Information:
Hi,
I'm old enough to be a great-grandma, but young at heart. I love to paint, especially in pastels, and have won some awards at local shows. Originally I'm from the Wisconsin and Minnesota area -- cold winters BRRR, and now live in New Mexico after 35 years in hot and HUMID Missouri.

Other Information:
And I paint, usually landscapes and skyscapes, sometimes still lifes. I love painting in pastels, but occasionally use acrylics or oil paints.

Finally I found a health provider who is open to prescribing natural thyroid hormones, and started on them 3 days ago. I am anxious to see if they help me to feel better. It's been a long row to hoe the last six month, but now that I'm able to be back at the gym, I'm finally getting my strength back. Thank you God emoticon

Please introduce yourself to the team - we have kidney donors, recipients, but most of us have chronic kidney disease is some form or another. Family members also join so they can learn about ckd. Either way I hope you find helpful information on how to love your kidneys.

I wanted to come back to you with a sample of what I eat during a day. For breakfast, I generally have some scrambled eggs, and a couple sausage links and a couple pieces of bacon. For a snack, I can have a serving of fruit and/or some non-fat greek yogurt. (if you mix the two, it goes down nicely)
Lunch is any kind of meat that isn't breaded, along with several helpings of vegetables. If you can get some avacado and/or some nuts in there, then that is great for protein & fat.
Don't cut fat out of your diet. Your body needs it, and it also is the key to not being hungry all the time.
Dinner is pretty much the same as lunch -- meat & vegetables, salad, etc.
If I want a snack anytime during the day/evening -- I can always snack on some veggies & dip, cheese, a few nuts.

Just one caution -- if you're buying processed foods -- watch the lables!! They put sugar in everything.
If you're eating out, you can't really control it as much. But, for instance, if I'm having ribs -- I just ask for them without any sauce. (they are delicious that way, and they also give you nicer ribs, because they know you can see the meat itself without being all sauced up)

Hope that helps -- good luck if you choose to try it.
Oh -- I mostly only crave the fruit.
Sure -- I'd love to have some pieces of cake, pie, ice cream, baked potatoes, rice, etc. --- but it's worth it to me to give them up (except for Saturday Cheat Days) so that I don't end up diabetic.
Basically, sugar makes you hungry. If you aren't spiking your blood sugar all the time, you aren't constantly going to be looking for something to eat.

Take care,
Susie
