A new chapter in my book of life

I am a recently retired special education teacher of 30 years. I have always had issues with my weight since my childhood. I have tried so many "diets" that I could almost become "certified" to teach them. Over the last few years, I have come to realize that a diet is not DIE with a T, but what I am eating. My diet has previously consisted of way to much in the amount of anything that I ate and way to many of the "bad foods". I am planning a new chapter now in which my diet will be more ...

My diet has previously consisted of way to much in the amount of anything that I ate and way to many of the "bad foods". I am planning a new chapter now in which my diet will be more consistent with an appropriate meal plan for me as a diabetic. I also plan to add exercise back into my life.

My Goals:
To loose weight to a more appropriate weight for my height. (5' 10") To become more physically fit. To drink 8 glasses of water daily. To more carefully regulate my blood sugar.

My Program:
Currently, I am "trying" to eat by a diabetic food plan, move more, and drink 8 glasses of water everyday. After my next appt. at the Diabetes Center I am sure I will have this tweaked some.

Personal Information:
I am a 52 year old recently retired teacher. I am divorced and the mother of one son that recently graduated with his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice.
Currently my favorite hobby is photography. As one of my retirement gifts, I received a wonderful new digital camera. I can't wait to start a photography class to learn how to use all of the buttons and frills that it has! Alot more than just "point and shoot".

Donna thanks for stopping in on my SP page. Looks like we have a few things in common. The inside paint job is a big job. My next room is the living room with high ceilings. I also have to remove wallpaper. I have never done that so it will be a challenge. I plan to have someone come in and paint the popcorn ceiling and they just might end up painting the entire room for me.

I am watching my diabetes as well with diet and exercise. I just adjust the carbs that SP had me down for. They were not to far off. I hope losing weight will kick that diabetes 2 to the curb lol.

I am a photo nut. I took some free courses online through Sony and HP. The instructor Marc is very good. He has his own forum were you can post your photos, get helpful comments, just to share and even a monthly contest/challenge. Very nice group of people. If you would like more info just email me off my spark page.

Good luck with your journey,
We are all in this together and here to help,
Bre

Welcome, I am a 50 year old Special Ed. Aide in an elementary school in Texas. I admire anyone who works with these special kids, especially on a long term basis. I am pretty new here, but am having some success. These are a great bunch of people.

Good luck on the journey!

Hi Donna! Welcome to the 50+ Females. This is a great place to find motivation and support. There are so many great tools at SP and you'll never feel like you're alone in this journey, especially with this great 50+ group. Good luck! I'm a retired teacher too! I have been retired 9 glorious years after putting in 29 wonderful years of teaching - mostly first & second grade!
