2012: STRONG!

A Facebook friend challenged us to come up with a word to describe our goals for the year, rather than a traditional New Years Resolution. I don't do well with resolutions overall, so I thought this was a good idea for me.

2012: STRONG!

On Feb 18, 2011, I weighed 190lbs--my highest ever, including when I was pregnant. My BP was high. My cholesterol was high. My vitamin D was just about as low as it could go. I didn't exercise. I ate horribly. And then I met my doctor, and with both her help and Sparkpeople, I started making little steps in the right direction.

By December 31, 2011, I had lost 32 lbs. I have another 18 or so to go. I started running and went from struggling to run for 60 seconds (8/1/11) to running 84 MINUTES (6.5 miles, 12/31/11). I lost 5" off my waist. 5.5" off my thigh. 22" total. I successfully completed 2 races (a 5K and a 5-miler) and registered to run 2 Half Marathons in 2012 ... and only 5 months earlier I had called a friend in tears because I was too scared/intimidated to walk into the running store to be measured for shoes and swore I would never be able to run outside where people could see me.

In 2012, I will make myself STRONGER. I am training for my first HM on 5/6/12. I will start to work on some strength training. I will continue to eat healthily and will try to drink even more water. I will work on being emotionally strong, too. Why? Because I am worthy.

My Goals:
Run my first 5k by my 40th birthday - GOAL MET 6 months 4 days early!

Races:
Komen MD Race for the Cure 5k, 10/23/11 - 34:15.5 (11.03 pace, 118/219 age bracket)

Celtic Solstice 5 miler, 12/17/11 - 56:48 (11:16 pace)

Clydes 10K, 4/15/12

Frederick HM, 5/6/12

Baltimore HM, 10/13/12


Rather than looking at my current weight, my goal weight, and seeing big numbers, I'm going to lose 5 lbs. Hopefully many times, but I'll be happy with the first 5.

3/5/11 - lost the first 5! Bring it on, next 5. I'm ready for you!

4/2/11 - 10 down. New goal--to lose a stone, total, by my birthday at the end of the month. It'll be a challenge, but isn't that what life is all about?

10/24/11 - BMI back in "normal" range by 12/31/11. Currently 26-26/7 depending on how tall I am.


My Program:
2/21/11 - tracking my food and water, trying to walk the dog each day, trying not to give up on myself.

Started C25K 8/1/11. Will finish the programme on 10/2/11.

Personal Information:
Originally from England, now living in Maryland. Mum of 2 fantastic kids. Love being with my family and knitting--often at the same time.

Hello my friend - thank you for posting on my page a while back. I'm struggling to get back on track, and I guess I have to take it one small step at a time like I had to do in the beginning. I do want to catch up with you and our team.
How did you do with all of the snow? We lost power here in NY for 3 days and lost a few trees, but all is well now. I'm hoping it turned out ok for you.
